Futsal Escocia Futsal Escocia

Coaching, Leagues, Birthday Parties, Team Sessions. Coaching from 4 years of age into adulthood. Futsal is fast moving on a smaller pitch.

Futsal Escocia is a new and exciting futsal coaching course for kids of all ages and abilities. Futsal is relatively unknown in Scotland, however, it is now the fastest growing indoor sport in the world and is the only 5 a side game recognised by UEFA and FIFA. Although 5 a side football is currently more popular in the UK, futsal is growing rapidly with futsal venues opening up all over England. Futsal is extremely popular in South America and the south of Europe and it's no coincidence that legends such as Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka and current superstars, Messi, C. Ronaldo, Iniesta and Neymar played futsal as kids. All of the sessions will be based around improving technique, control, skill, game awareness and decision making. This means more touches, more passes, more shots, more saves and most importantly, more excitement. When was the last time your kids came off the football pitch sweating? Futsal is sure to change that!!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 SCOTLAND CALL-UPS | ALFIE HUTCHISON & LIAM KENNEDY 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Everyone at Futsal Escocia is delighted to see Alfie Hutchison (Newcastle United) and Liam Kennedy (Celtic) included in the Scotland U19 squad to face Finland, Czechia and Ukraine in Spain later this month.

Alfie has previously been involved with Scotland U15 & 16s squads, while incredibly this is Liam's first international call-up. Hopefully the first of many!

Both players are terrific examples of how futsal can complement and support a young player's development.

Growing up, Alfie and Liam were regularly training or playing futsal 2–4 times per week. They were also the type of players who would hang about Michael Woods on a Sunday night looking for another game whenever they could get one.

Importantly, neither stopped playing futsal as they progressed through football. Both continued into the adult game, with Liam still representing Joga Futsal in the SFL Super League last season.

Lots of touches. Lots of decisions. Lots of 1v1s. Lots of small-sided games. And, most importantly, a genuine love of playing.

Two players who embraced both football and futsal as part of their development. ⚽️⚽️

Massive congratulations to Alfie and Liam from everyone at Futsal Escocia.

Well done boys — keep up the great work! 👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

FUTSAL DEVELOPMENT | IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE BALL

We often hear about the attacking benefits of futsal.

More touches. Better technique. Faster decisions. Creativity. 1v1 ability. Movement and rotations.

But one of the most overlooked benefits of futsal is what it teaches players when they DON'T have the ball.

Modern football is increasingly played around two main defensive approaches: pressing high or defending in a compact block.

Neither concept is new to futsal. They have been fundamental parts of the game for decades.

At grassroots football, I regularly hear coaches barking:

“PRESS, PRESS, PRESS”

without any structure or coaching behind it and very few teams offer a different defensive style.

Futsal exposes players to different challenges constantly.

A high press, particularly man-to-man, develops individual defensive responsibility. Players have to recognise rotations, communicate, track movement, decide whether to follow or switch, identify pressing triggers and understand the consequences when they get those decisions wrong.

A low or mid block presents completely different problems.

Players learn positional discipline, distances between defenders, covering passing lanes, communication, patience and recognising the moment when the block should become a press.

And then comes perhaps the most important part...

Every defensive problem creates an attacking problem for the opposition to solve.

Develop better defenders, and we will automatically develop better attackers.

Expose young players to a man-to-man press and they have to learn how to escape it.

Expose them to a compact low block and they have to learn how to manipulate and create space.

Show them different formations and they have to recognise different pictures.

Introduce rotations and they have to decide how and when to exploit defensive reactions.

Add restarts and set plays and they develop another layer of tactical understanding and problem-solving.

So rather than coaches constantly providing the answers, the game asks the questions and in a small area and with less numbers, they are constant.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I believe that there's no greater player-development tool than futsal.

It isn't simply about producing players who are technically better with the ball.

It's about developing intelligent players who understand space, pressure, movement, teammates, opponents and the constantly changing pictures of the game — in and out of possession.

And because those pictures appear so frequently in futsal, players get repeated opportunities to recognise, decide, act, fail, adapt and try again.

That's player development.

Futsal doesn't just develop better ball players, it develops more intelligent players in and out of possession of the ball.

Futsal Escocia is running a free coach education evening in October to share our knowledge and experience with teams registered in our Winter Leagues.

We hope to see a good number of coaches there.

🇵🇹 FUNCHAL FUTSAL CUP | MADEIRA 2027 🇵🇹

Futsal Escocia Team parents have now been emailed with information regarding our return to the Funchal Futsal Cup in Madeira in July 2027. 🌍⚽️

Last year was a fantastic experience. Our players represented themselves and Futsal Escocia brilliantly, competing against teams in proper futsal conditions and experiencing a completely different environment.

In 2027, we want to give more players and more age groups that opportunity.

For us, these trips aren't simply about entering another tournament.

Playing against teams immersed in futsal exposes our players to different:

🔹 Playing styles and formations
🔹 Rotations and movement
🔹 Different defensive structures
🔹 Individual and collective tactical problems
🔹 Levels of intensity and decision-making
🔹 Approaches to the game that we don't regularly experience in Scotland

That exposure is invaluable.

It develops the players, but it also develops the understanding of our coaches and parents.

Most importantly, the learning doesn't stay in Madeira.

Our coaches bring those experiences and ideas back into the Futsal Escocia environment, meaning every player within our programme can ultimately benefit from the experience.

We're continually looking to expose our players to environments that challenge their understanding of the game.

Madeira 2027 🇵🇹
Proper futsal. Different problems. New experiences.

Is Scottish football finally changing?

It’s great to see a younger squad and a fresh approach with the new management at both the first team and youth levels.

We can't expect instant success, but I’d much rather see the game built for the long term than just chasing quick wins.

Hopefully, we’ll see some changes at the grassroots and academy levels too, with more focus on small-sided games and developing better players.

Our Teen sessions provide a fun, competitive and challenging environment where players can continue developing, stay active and enjoy playing the game.
