Tough game that. But as bullish as I normally am, there should be a bit of realism.

I spoke to the boys before the game about these games aren't the ones that define our season. But will give us an indication of where we are at.

On the face of it - away against the second best team in the TJFA, a team who scored 120 goals last season and coming away only 3 - 0 looks respectable.

Ultimately though they are a level above and showed us what we need to do.

The first half I thought we were matching them, and felt we were in the game.

A basic cross that wasn't closed down give them the opener.
And a very fortunate soft penalty allowed them to double their lead.

I asked the boys at half time to match them in the second half - unfortunately we didn't. Not blaming anyone, but we left our full backs too exposed and gifted them a 3rd.
We need to work on wingers supporting full backs first and foremost.

Next, we didn't play smart or composed, so our pressing was erratic and left gaps in the middle of the park - we also gave it away cheaply. And in this heat, that costs you.

I can't fault effort. I take full responsibility for how we set up and the shape, and know what we need to work on..

Their Ref said to me 'your keeper is absolutely outstanding' and he was. James was superb in goal and one of the reasons our scoreline was respectable. As a result James pipped Sealey and Josh to MoM.

Again though, our target is to stay in this division this year, and these are the free hit games were we learn lessons to take forward..

They finished 2nd in the top tier of the TJFA last season scoring over 100 goals.

But we have to play them at some point, so I reckon now is a good time 👊🏼

Where do I start with this 🤔 On one hand I don't want to get ahead of myself as it'll be a long season, but the other side of me is screaming - BOOM 💥 The Aces have arrived......

Look, it's early days, I'm not daft (well not totally) - but credit where credits due.
Their manager spoke with me before the game, they have been at this level for a while and were competing at the top a couple of seasons ago, and whilst they've lost a couple of players, I thought it was going to be a good test of where we are at.

After a class warm up, and intense pre-match talk, we had the boys wound up like coiled springs. They were absolutely electric in that opening half hour.

Jack Sproat making his competitive debut was superb, and followed instructions to absolutely set about their defense at every opportunity. He did mint winning possession, then worked it well and found Tyler in the box to slot home.

We dominated possession and looked to get in time and again. Set piece king Alistair Loudens superb delivery from a corner found Sealey free to power home a header to double the Aces lead.

Then the Pièce de résistance - Charlie Napier teed up summer recruit Laiton Fleming 30 yards out, and he hit a peach of a half volley to send old Jürgen almost dancing down the sidelines, but then remembered the old fractured ribs.
The funniest thing though was Charlie wheeling away saying 'I assisted that' 🤣

Second half we lost a bit of intensity and they grew into the game, and they threatened to get back into it, but James' handling and shot stopping was superb today and frustrated them.
Sonny then picked it up in the middle of the park and played a lovely through ball to Carter, who went through and finished emphatically.
4-0 and we were in dream land.

They pulled one back, but game management from Sealey, Laiton & Zack was superb.
One sour point was Charlie Napier's tackle on their player who had to go off after being halved, resulting in a yellow.
But he was superb today, and is making that left back position his own.

All the boys were class today, we won't get carried away......one game at a time and all that.
But for now, we'll enjoy the victory, and be proud of this underdogs tale - from Division 8 to Division 1, and we look like we belong, and we are THE ACES 🔥
