Another week, another race for our Mark! π
This time it was a Tuesday evening dash around Lyme Park for their Midsummer Trail 10k. With 800ft/245m of elevation over an undulating course, it certainly wasn't the 'nice jog around a country estate' Mark joked that he'd signed up for, but the route offered a mix of road and trail terrain to get stuck into, and views of Manchester and the Peak District to reward the climbs!
Mark has suffered with a few injuries in the last couple of years, but has recently been returning to form with regular appearances at races of varying lengths over the Summer. It's great to see Mark out flying the Strider flag and enjoying the fitness he's worked hard to build back up π
Well done to Run North West for getting over 500 runners out on a weeknight - it looked like a great evening for it! π

Well done to Amy, Elizabeth, Jackie, Brad, Lucy, Steven, Steve and Sue for racing at FIND MOOR on Friday evening π
Runners competed in pairs, and were given half an hour to study a map with checkpoints of different values and plot a route - the aim wasn't to get to all of them, but to be tactical about which were worth visiting... After this, they had an hour to put their planning into action and run around the hills bagging points. In some cases, the threat of penalties for overrunning the hour saw teams abandoning their planned routes and just getting back to the finish by any means! With more similarities to orienteering events than traditional trail and fell racing, this format gave Striders a new way to explore the local area, and arguably the home advantage was cancelled out for some by overconfidence in the planning stage... They all made it back eventually, with fresh pizzas and beers making everyone feel like a winner π
Shout out to Brad and his teammate Harry for taking 2nd place, and congratulations to our friends at Summit Moor for hosting their first race!Β

Our team was looking good in the sunshine of Pudsey today for race 8 of 10. Smaller in number, perhaps due to the holidays but still packing a punch on the trails.
A double loop of a wooded, undulating course kept us cool for some great performances.
Andy taking the win in a stonking time of 31.14 and therefore also 1st MV45
David Taylor and Amy Connor both 2nd in their respective age categories too!
Well done striders, fingers crossed our points totals today keep the club ranking near the top of the leagues for male & females teams.
Thanks to for fantastic hospitality & superb marshals.
NEXT RACE:
The postponed Northowram Pumas course which has been moved to 1st September. If you can make this date change then get on it!! π

Well done to Ben, Mark, and Louise for racing at Hawkshead Show on Tuesday! π
Having only decided to take part the night before in the pub, they no doubt appreciated the midday start time... The route covered 4.5miles and 1000ft of elevation, running up to a trig point and bombing back down in classic fell-running fashion. Other entertainment at the Hawkshead Agricultural Show in Cumbria included dog and livestock judging, a tractor show, fruit and veg displays and handicraft judging. Mark was disappointed not to win 'Best in Show' - we're not sure which category he fancied his chances in π€
Well done to Hawkshead Agricultural Show for celebrating 150 years - what a fantastic tradition to keep alive π

There may have been cloudy skies in Huddersfield last weekend, but there were plenty of bright spirits π
24 Striders showed up to volunteer at Huddersfield Parkrun - cheering, marshalling, tail walking, pacing and bringing the energy all morning. Huddersfield Parkrun is a much loved regular for many of our members, so it was great to be able to give back and support the 830 runners who took part last week. Thank you to every one who volunteered (my voice has just about recovered! π«£) π
Thank you also to Huddersfield parkrun for having us and for the continued effort you put in week on week to put on a great event π

Well done to Strider Keithy for racing Piethorne 10k on Sunday π
Hosted by our good friends at craggrunner , this race twists and turns over and under the M62, circling Piethorne and Ogden reservoirs, and skirting the edge of Hollingworth Lake. Keithy has favoured marathons and ultramarathons recently, so he used this 10K route with 950ft of elevation to collect some personal bests for 1K, 1mile, and 2mile, getting round in well under an hour overall πͺ
Thanks to CraggRunner for another great race, and well done to Keithy for another morning out on the trails repping green π
