Huddersfield parkrun – the perfect halfway stop! ☀️🐾
With a big weekend ahead, we’re travelling up to Newcastle for Matty to take on the Great North Run tomorrow, so we decided to break up the journey and stretch our legs along the way.
Rather spontaneously, we chose Huddersfield parkrun, which turned out to be almost perfectly halfway for our trip, so it seemed like fate! What started as simply finding somewhere to stop and get a few steps in turned into such a brilliant morning.
We arrived with our four-legged companion Milo, who absolutely loved all the fusses and attention he received. He definitely seemed to think parkrun was more about making friends than the running! 🐶❤️
Then, in keeping with the spontaneous theme, we somehow ended up pacing on the day too! The weather was mild and sunny, making for lovely conditions, and the whole atmosphere at Huddersfield was fantastic.
Kirsty even declared it her favourite parkrun she’s ever done, which is some statement considering we have visited almost 80 different locations! There really was something special about this one.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers for the amazing support, encouragement and enthusiasm. You made us feel so welcome and really helped make the morning such an enjoyable one. 💚👏
We enjoyed it so much that we stayed behind afterwards to help with token sorting, before rounding off the morning with a lovely bacon sarnie from the café. 🥓☕
So, what was meant to be a convenient halfway stop on the journey to Newcastle turned into a fantastic parkrun, some unexpected pacing, plenty of Milo fusses, helping out behind the scenes and a very tasty breakfast. A spontaneous decision that definitely paid off!
Thanks Huddersfield, we absolutely loved it and will be back! 💚🏃♀️🐶
Kind regards,
Matty and Kirsty

An extra shout out to the volunteers today that ensured we could go ahead when accessing our kit proved tricky! Volunteering is fun & easy, why not give it a go?
Nephi is your RD next Saturday please let him know asap if he can reserve you a volunteer spot!
Before we go we mentioned in the pre run brief today about using the toilets (we are lucky to have ample public toilets) & not the bushes that was witnessed by some of our volunteers this week & last. It is illegal, inappropriate & unnecessary & must not happen.
We had Anna volunteering as photographer today - we will post those in the next few days once they are ready 📸
Have a great week!

Saturday 5th September. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered - Please note we only have minimal access to the community room tomorrow due to ongoing works in there. We will be able to get the kit in & out but not use the room as we normally do.
Volunteers we will be meeting outdoors hopefully under a gazebo on the grass, if this strong wind doesn’t drop we’ll be rethinking but won’t be far away. The toilet block & cafe are still available & not affected by the works.
07:45 Course check & early set up crew, 08:00 course set up crew, 08:30 all other volunteers, 08:50 First Timers Welcome on the grass opposite the tennis courts, 09:00 main briefing at the start area & go!
See everyone tomorrow (& please park your cars considerately!)

PARKING! 🅿️ ‼️🚙
Sadly we have received a verbal complaint from one of our neighbours. It would appear some parkrunners are not parking considerately & in some cases not safely. We are blessed around Greenhead Park with ample free street parking, however it does fill up fast & you may need to walk a short distance from your car to the start. The later you arrive the further away you will be, please do allow plenty of time to allow for this.
We have apologised on your behalf but it isn’t our responsibility where you park your vehicle; but as a community that is very lucky to have a parkrun where we do we must all play our part in being good citizens. If anyone sees anyone parking inconsiderately or in an unsafe way please do say something to that person.
The neighbour in question is fully aware if these concerns continue they will be perfectly within their rights to contact West Yorkshire Police.
