The UK's updated Chief Medical Officers' physical activity guidelines have landed, and the message is refreshingly simple...
β¨ You don't need to be perfect.
β¨ You don't need hours in the gym.
β¨ You just need to move more.
The biggest takeaways:
π Every movement counts β even the small things.
π Sitting less is just as important as exercising more.
π Strength training is essential at least twice a week to maintain muscle, bone health and independence.
π If you're taking weight-loss medications like GLP-1s, resistance training is even more important to help preserve muscle.
π The goal of 150 minutes of moderate activity each week still stands β but it doesn't have to happen all at once.
π Walking to the shops, taking the stairs, carrying the shopping, dancing in the kitchen... it all adds up.
As a Health Coach and PT, this is exactly what I encourage my clients to focus on. Sustainable habits beat all-or-nothing thinking every single time.
