One real joy of parkrun is that rocking up on the prom (or at another event) on a Saturday morning isn’t just a run thing. As people start to arrive on the seafront each week, everyone brings a different week of experiences and challenges. Some folk may have used every last scrap of energy just to get there for 9am (or for 8.30 if they’re volunteering) and although on the face of it, parkrun might look like a sporting event and some people do show up just to run a 5k, it’s also community, therapy, an hour’s break from everything else going on and a place where everyone is welcome. The ‘thank you, marshal’s, the cheers for regulars and visitors and the hugs, tea drinking and laughs matter at least as much as the tokens and the times. If you made it to the prom this week, we hope you feel the same and had a wonderful morning.
The September sunshine stretched summer out just a little longer today and 790 folk came to join us by the seaside. The legends who are Noel and Murphy reached their 25 milestone (with Noel commenting that he didn’t think he’d manage one but has become one of our wonderful regulars) and Bramble and Caroline hit their 25 volunteer along with Tom Coombe. Megan, our prom regular, completed her 250 run with us. Aurelia, our bride-to-be, chose Hove Prom to celebrate her nuptials, Matsui, our friend from Japan dropped in for his September visit (see you again in November, Matsui!) , and Steve, Maggie, Glynn and Darren ran all five Brighton and Hove parkruns this morning starting at 5.15 am and finishing with us. And of course we had a participant wearing a seagull outfit. Well done, sir! With the school term starting again, we were very happy to welcome a whole new gang of Duke of Edinburgh volunteers who took our hi-viz team up to 77 today. Thank you to every single one of you!
If you came along today and brought a smile, a thank you and a good vibe, we were happy to see you and we hope you’ll come back next week. You’re ALWAYS welcome to join us volunteering by emailing us at [email protected] or by popping a note on our Facebook, Instagram or Strava. Have a fantastic week until then, Prommers.
