There were a few career milestones and personal bests achieved at the weekend.

Saturday 22nd August
This week at Victory Road, the 1st XI took on local rivals Horsham 2nd XI in an important game regarding their standing in Division 4 West.
Captain Jamie Gandy won the toss and chose to bat on a good looking wicket. Rohan Patel and Kiwi Jacob Gilkison opened the batting and progressed steadily to 60 without loss at the first drinks break at 15 overs. After the break, the scoring rate escalated and Rohan was first out for 80 with the score on 136 and was shortly followed by Jacob for 54. Max McAteer (30), Rhys Beckwith and Max Rees (24) then pushed even harder with strike rates over 150. Rhys was dismissed having played his best innings for the club as he struck 61 from 32 balls with four 6s. Rob Deane then hit 36 from 17 balls. Late wickets fell in the chase for runs as 352-9 was recorded with a total of 22 sixes hit.
In the reply, the Horsham batters came hard at the bowling to see just over a hundred on the board at drinks, but for the loss of 5 wickets. When the eighth wicket fell on 136 things were looking good, but a stand of 64 only delayed the inevitable as Rob Deane took the final two wickets to end with 4-33 as the visitors were dismissed for 201 in the 32nd over.
The top two teams were playing each other and Burgess Hill easily beat Crawley Eagles to take the 30 points and remain top. With our win, we move into second place ahead of West Chiltington and Thakeham who we play next week.

The 2nd XI travelled to Storrington to play their 1st XI.
Having lost the toss, we were asked to bat and John Kimberley and Chris Douglas took the score to 50 before John was caught for 32. When the third wicket fell on 110 in the 21st over, Chris was 39no and was then joined by Pete Horner. The two of them put on an unbeaten 152 for the 4th wicket as Chris completed his fifth century of the year and ended on 133no while Pete scored exactly 50. The innings closed on a respectable 262-3.
The Trinity bowling was up to the task of defending that and with Tim Sreet and Lewis Fiddaman both taking three wickets and George Horner two, only one batter offered much resistance with 43 as the hosts were all out for 102 in 26 overs.
With the other results, we are now in third place in Division 9 West with two games remaining. It’s all shaping to be a close finish.

The 3rd XI game was moved from Staplefield to Whitemans Green for the clash with Hindu Unity 2nd XI for their second meeting in two weeks.
With Captain Neil Collyer winning the toss he opted to bowl first. The opposition were presented with the unlikely opening pairing of Tommo Faulkner and James Gatward, but the surprise moved worked as Tommo picked up 2-13 and James 1-13 from three overs each. Arthur Scott and Ollie Nottage took a wicket each, Rob Watson two and Marcus Ally wrapped up the inning with 3-3 including the Hindu Unity Captain Roshan Patel for a well made 54 from an all out total of 109 in the 24th over.
Facing a moderate total, Warren Sweatman was run out for 14, Ollie Nottage made 20 to see him pass 500 runs for the club but Charlie Longhurst remained not out on 24 as we won off the first ball of the 21st over for the loss of 5 wickets.

This has now completed the 3rd XI league fixtures in Division 12 West (North) where we have ended up in second place by 24 points to RAM 4th XI who take the only guaranteed promotion spot. The playing record of played 14, won 11, lost 2 and one cancelled speaks for itself. The two losses were against RAM. RAM themselves only won 10 games with two concessions for 30 points each as well.
Well played to Neil and the 3rd XI.

At Lower Beeding, the 4th XI were up against Storrington 2nd XI.
The visitors won the toss and wanted to bat first. The first wicket fell quickly to Nav Prasanth but there followed a 138 run stand which was broken by Nav when he returned for his second spell. Further wickets fell with Stanley Hoult taking 2-19 from his five overs. The innings closed on 238-6.
The Trinity innings was opened by Roger Southgate and Tim John with Roger carrying on his good form and unfortunately, he was bowled for 95 when looking for his fourth hundred of the season. The score had progressed nicely to 186 at the time and things were looking good. Nav came in at number three and made 26 before he was out with the score on 225 with 27 balls of the game remaining and 14 runs needed. Captain Rory Lawson came and went for a first ball duck. 12 balls later Isaac Gorringe was bowled. 9 runs still needed. Xander Lawson was now at the wicket. One over was left and 7 still wanted when Xander struck a four, but was bowled the next ball. Gareth Jeffreys came in a got a single to get Tim back on strike who duly hit the last ball of the game to the boundary to seal the win. Tim remained on a season best of 82no while George Wastell bowled well for The Swans to take the last four wickets to fall for 33 runs.
With two weeks of the league season remaining the 4th XI are currently 7th in Division 12 West (North West).

A fantastic second Saturday in a row with all four sides winning.

Sunday 23rd August
The Sunday team were away this week playing Balcombe Sunday 1st XI.
The home side won the toss and decided to bowl. Lewis Fiddaman and Darren McDonald both made 52 before retiring and Jacob Gilkison hit 30 with a good 28 from Charlie Longhurst at number 10. With the top seven in the batting order and Charlie contributing, a total of 259-7 was achieved before a declaration was made by Captain Toby Tavener.
In the reply, Balcombe also had 2 batters make fifties before retiring and therefore got off to a good start. Eight bowling options were used with Jacob Gilkison being the most successful with 3-18. A 76 run partnership for the 6th wicket took the total to 235, but eventually the innings closed on 246-6 and a draw was declared.

Saturday 15th August
This week the 1st XI journeyed to Broadwater to take on their 1st XI.
In the absence of Captain Jamie Gandy, Rohan Patel took charge of the team and duly won the toss and decided to bat and was rewarded with consistence batting throughout the innings. Rohan (40) and Ben Moir (41) put on 71 for the first wicket, Elliott Stanbridge chipped in with 29, but the star of the batting this week was Jack Gold who hit 83 from 58 balls. The innings closed on a respectable 293-9.
The opening bowling pair of Ben Moir (3-41) and Rob Deane (2-27) plus Ollie Berry (2-19) made early inroads into the Broadwater batting line up and reduced them to 69-7 in the 13th over. Then followed a frustrating stand of 88 for the 8th wicket which was broken by Kiwi Jacob Gilkison in his fifth over. Two balls later he had a second wicket and the following ball struck again to wrap up the inning for 157 with over fourteen overs left to play. A disappointing 43 extras were conceded, but a win is a win.
With three games, left this win, and other results in our favour, the side moves into 3rd place in the division and closed the gap to the top two teams.

At Victory Road, the 2nd XI played Crawley 3rd XI.
Having won the toss, we chose to bat, and the unfortunate early run out of Chris Douglas could have hampered the scoring, but John Kimberly with 57, Captain Toby Tavener, also making 57 the score progressed steadily. Pete Ayres then struck his maiden fifty for the club at a run-a-ball to remain 50no at the close as the total ended on 242 for the loss of four wickets.
Wickets fell regularly during the Crawley innings with only opener Sarim Raja making a meaningful contribution of 68 from 151-5 when he was stumped by Ben Ford off the bowling of young Charlie Longhurst. Ben also contributed three catches to go with the stumping. After the breakthrough, Pete Ayres then produced his best bowling figures of 4-54 from his short time at Trinity. The latter few wickets saw Crawley all out for 220.

At Lower Beeding, the 3rd XI played the first of two fixtures against Hindu Unity 2nd XI.
Given that the visitors are under pressure to not be ejected from the league for conceding games, they done well to turn up with 9 players.
On a dusty, dry wicket, Captain Neil Collyer decided to bowl first and immediately produced dividends as the visitors were dismissed for 83 in the 23rd over. Glyn Horsley took 3-23, Carl Cavallo 2-7 and Pete Robinson 2-17. Seven of the wickets to fall were to catches.
The reply was completed for the loss of three wickets in 10.2 overs with James Gatward making 52no from 34 balls.
The win sees us remain in 2nd place in the division behind RAM who were beaten by 3rd place Ifield. With one game remaining, Ifield are unable to catch us and we are now 24 points behind RAM. Can we get the one guaranteed promotion spot next week?

The 4th XI went to Oakwood Hill to take on third place Slinfold 3rd XI.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl on what looked like a good wicket, but soon proved to be a tough one to bat on against the young Slinfold pace attack. Roger Southgate opened the batting and saw several partners come and go. Harris Kitchingman made a useful 26 and Isaac Yuille, playing his first league game since May a good 25 and put on 96 with Roger for the fifth wicket. Once the pace bowlers were seen off runs flowed a bit more freely. Roger played well on that surface and went on to complete his century with exactly 100 before being out with one ball of the innings remaining. This is his second consecutive ton and his third of the season. The result of this grafting effort was 218-6 on the board.
Jacob McLeod opened the bowling and took two wickets in his first spell. Isaac then made an important breakthrough in his first over to get the third Slinfold wicket. Not long after that Henry Alldridge entered the attack and got the other settled batter and followed that with another in the same over to see Slinfold on 131-5. A few l***y blows reduced the remaining runs, but wickets also fell with opening bowlers Alan Wyatt (1-35) and Jacob coming back on. A good direct hit from Xander Lawson produced a run out and Jacob took the remaining two wickets for a personal best of 4-37 to seal the third win of the season as Slinfold were all out for 203.

Sunday 16th August
Victory Road saw a high scoring encounter between the Sunday Development XI and Crawley Eagles Sunday XI.
Having won the toss, Trinity batted first with Lewis Fiddaman and Will Lawson opening the batting. Lewis was first out for 34, then Toby Tavener for 13 and Will Lawson for a patient 51 when the score was on 160-3 at the end of the 29th over. In the meantime, Jacob Gilkison had come in at number 4 and put on 75 with Will and was on 49no when Will was out. Ben Watson came in at number 5 and with Jacob put on a quick unbroken 120 run stand. Ben finished on 56no from 36 balls and included six 6s, but star of the show was Jacob who remained not out on a terrific 109no from 74 balls with three 6s. The 280-3 score was going to be a challenge to match.
Eagles started off the reply at a good rate with the first wicket falling to Isaac Yuille in the 8th over with 77 runs on the board. A stand of 142 runs followed which was broken when century maker Suba Anand was dismissed by Christian Cole in the 26th over. Isaac returned for a second spell and took the final wicket to fall on 269 in the 32nd over but by which time the finishing line was in sight and that duly arrived eleven balls later. Nine bowlers were used in the game with Isaac ending with 2-50.
