Horsham Bowling Club hosted Dorking on Tuesday in a 3-rink Triples match. Horsham won on 2 rinks but lost heavily on the 3rd to lose overall 44-51. Top rink was shared between Trevor Sumptor, Steve Williams and Ray Ransom (+6) also Jackie Williams, Derek Thompson and David Haynes (+6). Thursday welcomed Worthing Pavilion for the 2nd leg of the Friendship Cup, a very long standing friendly fixture. Horsham went into the 5 rink game with a two shot lead after the first leg away at Worthing Pavilion. At home Horsham won by 27 shots with the final combined total being 168 shots for Horsham to 139 for Worthing Pavilion, so winning the Friendship Cup for the first time in four years.
Top Rink was Club Captain Gerard Donck with Lindsey Armstrong, Chris Holmes and Kay Baldock (+13). Other rinks were John Bentley (+11), Lesley Grogan (+6), Ric Davey (+5) & Dave Marden (-8).
5th & 6th September is the Club's Finals Weekend, with a full programme over both days.

Tuesday saw Horsham travel to West Hoathly for a friendly. Horsham lost on two rinks, drew on one and won on the other with Dave Marden the winning skip helped by Chris Holmes, Gill Pestell and Judith Wright 15-9. Dave Packham drew 16-16, while Gerard Donck losing 13-23 and Alan Pestell 5-23. Overall 49-71.
Wednesday was a home friendly triples against Norfolk Littlehampton, going down 86-105. Top rink was skip Ray Ransom, Chris Somers and Doug Whetstone 25-9. Other winning rink was John Bentley with Christine Chappell and Derek Thompson 21-13. Losing rinks were Simon Felton 13-17, Lesley Grogan 8-20, Dave Marden 8-20 and David Haynes 11-26.
Saturday saw Horsham host the second part of the Sussex County Finals.
The event was a huge success and was well supported.
Eastbourne won the mixed fours against Burgess Hill.
Sidley Martlets defeated Lindfield in the Abergavenny (the double fours….two teams of 4. Winners being determined on the combined score.)
Mark Hoult from Chichester won the Unbadged Singles, defeating Geoff Bobby from Southwick.
In a very tense, close game , the Champion of Champions was won by John Boon from Polegrove, beating Anthony Bull from Southbourne by one shot.
Many congratulations to Horsham’s Richard Bourne who played in the nationals at Leamington in the Men’s 2 Wood Singles. Unfortunately going out early it was a tremendous effort and amazing experience for him.

Tuesday 4th August lost against Buxted Park in the John Spriggs league picking up 2 points out of 10
Also on Tuesday Horsham lost in their match away in the Mid Sussex league taking 2 points out of 10.
Thursday we welcomed Newdigate for the final match in the Border League. Horsham winning on all rinks and taking 10 points.
Saturday Horsham welcomed Crawley Town, with the visitors winning 65-60. Horsham’s top ring was a Tim Hossack, Chris Holmes and David Haynes winning 22-14.

On 5th August, Horsham Bowls Club were hosts to a men's intercounty match between Sussex and Hampshire. Martin Jolliffe, a member at Horsham, was playing for Sussex. The weather was a lot cooler than of late which was ideal for bowling. Played over 18 ends in good spirit, after a very close game, Sussex won the match, winning 69-60.

3 wood Competition held last Sunday with 20 members taking part. Winners were Ray Ranson and Irene Gettins who beat John Bentley and Tim Hossack 16-2.
