How do you become a better leader in UW (or any network marketing business)?

While I’m out in Cyprus, Juswant Rai and the team have been running our weekly Team RISE Zooms.

This was the exercise they came up with last night and I thought it was excellent.

List the top qualities of a great UW leader, then score yourself out of 10 against each one.

The team identified these:

• Consistency, doing the right activities day after day
• Communication
• Focus
• Learn, do, teach
• Goal setting
• Resilience
• Growth mindset
• Smile more
• Promote and attend events
• Ambition
• Be a role model, walk the talk and do what you say you’ll do

This is a great audit to do for yourself and to share with your team.

Be honest with your scores, then decide which one or two areas you’re going to improve first.

Nineteen years ago today I made one of the best decisions of my life.

When I joined Utility Warehouse, I simply hoped it would create another income stream. I never imagined how much it would shape the rest of my life.

Just two years later, during the credit crunch, I went bankrupt. The economy played its part, but so did some poor decisions I’d made around property. It was a tough lesson and one that changed me.

Without UW, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today.

Over the last 19 years, it’s helped me rebuild financially, introduced me to lifelong friends and taught me more about leadership, resilience and people than I could have imagined.

I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of customers and supporting thousands of Partners as they’ve built businesses of their own. Watching people achieve things they never thought possible is still the best part of what I do.

This photo was taken in Cyprus, where I’m spending a month living and working. Partly a holiday and also choosing to work somewhere different because I can. That’s a freedom this business has given me.

Thank you to everyone in Team RISE, to every mentor who’s helped me along the way and, finally, to myself for sticking with it through the difficult times.

Nineteen years on, I’m more excited than ever. UW is growing, Team RISE has real momentum and I genuinely believe the biggest opportunities by far are ahead.

Here’s to the next 19 years.
