The UK will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August.

The extent of the Sun’s coverage and the timing of maximum obscuration will differ across the country. Local weather conditions may impact viewing opportunities, so it’s worth checking the forecast in advance 🌦️

Northeast Scotland will have around 88% covered just before 7pm, whilst in the far southwest of England there will be around 96% coverage just after 7:15pm.

Never look directly at the sun; use a pinhole projector or certified eclipse glasses to view it.

Are you looking forward to this spectacle? ☀️🌕

Back in November of last year we invited experts from the Natural History Museum in London to our museum to take samples for analysis from the mammoth remains we have on display. These were dug up from Holyhead harbour in the 1850s.
Whilst we still await the results from the DNA analysis, we have recently received the results of tests to determine when the Woolly Mammoth, we have named 'Myfanwy', roamed the area around Holyhead.
The results tell us that this was close to 15,000 years ago and as such is currently the oldest known mammoth to have reinhabited Britain following the end of the ice age.
Myfanwy is also the only mammoth remains found in Wales!
Why not come and view the remains when you visit the museum. We open again on 31 March.
