Sport plays an important part in Service life as a way of keeping physically and mentally fit. Brazilian Ju Jitsu (BJJ) is the one of the fastest growing sports in the military and globally.
Central Flying School (Helicopters) based at RAF Shawbury has a Black Belt in Master Aircrewman Rowlands and a Brown Belt in Squadron Leader Waldron. When they visited No 1 Flying Training School’s 202 Squadron, based at RAF Valley, for routine flying training assurance, Flight Sergeant Le Sage who runs RAF Valley’s BJJ Club decided to also use the opportunity to set up a special BJJ training event.
It didn't take long for word to get around that the fourth ever RAF Black Belt was in town and external requests to attend came in. North Wales Black Belt Jennifer Briggs from Betws BJJ came along to maximise her own development and take something back to her academy.
