πββοΈ Why do we ask swimmers to arrive Beach Ready? π
Our Beach Ready Policy has been in place since 2020. It helps lessons run smoothly, keeps our changing areas organised and, most importantly, makes sure everyone has fair access to a safe and private space to change after their lesson.
Before this policy, some cubicles were being saved by families whose children were going into the pool. This sometimes meant that wet children coming out of lessons had nowhere available to get changed.
Weβre very fortunate that Oatlands is a purpose-built swimming facility, with 14 individual changing cubicles, 2 family changing rooms and a dedicated wet disabled changing room β considerably more changing space than you would find at many private swim schools across Northern Ireland. However, with lessons running throughout the day, we still need to manage these spaces fairly. π
π©° Think of swimming just like any other activityβ¦
If your child attends ballet or gymnastics, they would normally arrive already wearing their leotard underneath their clothes. A changing cubicle wouldn't necessarily be available at the venue for them to get ready before their class.
A leotard is very similar to a swimming costume β itβs the specific clothing needed to take part in that activity. Swimming is no different.
The same applies to football, dance, martial arts and many other children's activities. Children generally arrive dressed and ready for their session rather than expecting changing facilities to be available beforehand.
Our Beach Ready Policy simply asks the same: arrive ready to swim, use the pool for your lesson, then use our changing facilities afterwards when you are wet and need them most. πββοΈ
We are completely open and transparent about this policy. It is communicated to families and parents agree to it each time they enrol their child in lessons with us.
We also understand that coming straight from school can make this more difficult. If there isn't enough time between school finishing and swimming to arrive Beach Ready, we recommend requesting a later lesson or a weekend lesson where possible.
π Thank you for working with us. This isn't about restricting the use of our facilities β it's about making sure they are available fairly, safely and when swimmers need them most.
