I’ve had two messages recently asking if I’ve considered aesthetic treatments for my skin.

I hadn’t. I’m fairly happy in my own skin, but it made me look in the mirror and wonder if I should be.

I’m not anti-aesthetics at all. But I’m trying to keep loving the skin I’m in. I use no7 skincare, eat well, hydrate, exercise, enjoy life and wear the SPF!

It’s not always easy when we see so few naturally ageing faces online.

So here’s mine. 50-year-old skin, as it is.

Are you getting these kinds of messages, can you ignore or do they knock your confidence too?

The sentence we use as kids to gently challenge each other.

Now my brain rushes to protection mode…think what might go wrong! But then you don’t know if you don’t try……and maybe there’s still a move you didn’t know you could do!!!

Bit fiddly this one but getting there. Jab day!

I hide it!! 💥 they know I do it and there’s lots of groans but it works 🤩 and we need these moves in our toolbox for life!

We’re much more capable than we tell ourselves. But when terms like lunge/ press up are used, limiting beliefs crop up and I can see the dread!

So instead we play! Here’s a ‘knee bend balance’ game.

⭐️ step forwards and back
⭐️ step forwards and back and lift your knee
⭐️ step forwards and back and bend the back leg (boom - you just lunged!)

Of course I tell them to stop at the level that feels good but 9 times out of 10 everyone does it!

I think it’s a popular game/technique I use (they my clients might tell you different 🤭).

A breakthrough today! Getting Brian to sit on his bed while I make my breakfast. I banged and crashed about, I ignored him except the odd treat, George joined him and still only had to reset twice.

This is important as a dog under your feet in the kitchen is bad news. Plus it’s just good steadiness to distraction anyway. So proud of him!

It can feel so intimidating to try something new as we get older… but look what can happen when we do.

When Judy first came to me, she was nervous.

She’d been given a 1:1 Pilates session as a gift and genuinely wasn’t sure what she’d be able to do.

We started on the mat, but being down on the floor was difficult and uncomfortable.

So we tried the Reformer.

And in her words, it “revolutionised” everything.

Suddenly she felt supported. Comfortable. Able to move.

And that gave her the confidence to keep going.

Little by little, we started bringing mat work back in too. Now we happily switch between the Reformer and the mat, something that felt almost impossible in that first session.

Other positive changes have been kickstarted ….

She’s joined Slimming World because she wants to feel more comfortable and confident in herself.

She’s noticed she’s less breathless and her breathing has changed.

And ……

In September, she’s joining my group mat Pilates classes. ❤️

The woman who was nervous about whether she could manage a 1:1 session is choosing to walk into a group class.

It can be so easy as we get older to stay with what feels safe.

To say to ourselves “that’s not for me” before we’ve even given ourselves the chance to try.

But look what can happen when we do.

You don’t need to know what you’re doing before you start. You don’t need to be fit, flexible or confident. And most people are really nervous.

You just need somewhere you feel supported enough to begin.

I couldn’t be prouder of her. ❤️
