Hull riders were on top form to take home the majority of the trophies from Saturday’s Yorkshire League Individual Finals at Heckmondwike. Alexis Woodcock won the under 10’s event from closest rival Stanley Russon of Sheffield while Jayden Bennett was unbeaten to take the under 13 title from team mate Parker Galloway in second place.
The open meeting was won in fine style with a maximum from Hull’s Jack Lister with Nathan Everett losing only to Jack, and Harry Gibson beating Jason Keith in a run-off for third place to complete a clean sweep for Hull riders. Noah Lyon finished just outside the podium places with 15 points. Harry Gibson won the under 16’s section from Heckmondwike’s Elliot Long while Jason Keith rode well to take the veteran’s 55+ title with Heckmondwike’s Darren Kent runner-up. The veteran’s 40+ title was won by the home sides Lee Warhirst.

On Sunday Hull rode in the Northern Fours & Grand Prix third round at Astley & Tyldesley on a day that warmed up after early showers. Bury put in a strong team display to win comfortably with Sheffield just taking second place by one point from Hull with Astley & Tyldesley only one point further back in fourth place. Heckmondwike were never far off the pace in fifth place while an understrength Stockport side finished sixth. Hull’s Harry Gibson continued the form that took him to a British title, only dropping one point, with Nathan Everett continuing his recent come back in good form. Jack Lister provided good support with Kacey and Jayden Bennett also stepping up well into the team. Sheffield maintain their lead in the table with Hull and Bury three points behind.

Alexis Woodcock won the under 10 Grand Prix with Jayden Bennett taking the under 13 GP with Parker Galloway in second place. Harry Gibson finished third in the under 16 GP with Kacey Bennett runner-up in the women’s event. Hull maintained their unbeaten run in the Team Grand Prix League with a narrow four point victory in front of Astley & Tyldesley. Hull have a four point lead in the table, over nearest challengers Heckmondwike, with two rounds remaining.

🙌Harry Gibson produced a flawless display from gate to tape to win the British under 14 Championship at Wednesfield on Saturday. Harry won his first two races and faced the also unbeaten Kalem Martin of Newport in heat ten, holding him from the gate and racng away to take the win. Heat 15 brought together some of the leading scorers but the Hull rider again made no mistake to head home eventual runner-up Luca El Labany of Hethersett. The final race saw Harry power around, closest challenger and eventual third place Carson East of Coventry, from the tapes to race to an unbeaten 20 points and bring the trophy back to East Yorkshire. Massive congratulations to Harry and parents Rich and Liz.

Earlier in the day Alexis Woodcock competed in the British under 10 Girls Championship. In a competitive meeting Alexis was on top form winning all four of her programmed races to get first choice of gates in the four girl final. Nevaeh Draisey of Wednesfield got a good start from gate three to take the title with Poole’s Olivia Reeman in second place while Alexis held off Sienna Hammond of Kesgrave to take an excellent third place.

In the British Girls under 14 Final Sophia Temple withdrew, after finishing second in her first two rides, unfortunately feeling unwell.

Harry Gibson, Noah Lyon and Lewis Foxley all competed in the British Individual Championships over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday Harry qualified for the under 16 final at Wednesfield where he scored 12 points and finished ninth which is a great performance for a rider who is only 14 later this year. Noah and Lewis both qualified for the open semi-finals on Saturday and on Sunday at Wednesfield Noah scored nine points and Lewis scored 13 points but unfortunately lost a three man run-off for a final place. In the under 18 final at Leicester Noah scored 15 points, finishing strongly with two wins, but just missed a podium place by one point finishing in fifth place in the meeting won by Wednesfield’s Corey Burt. Well done to all three Hull riders with performances that promise great thigs for the future.

This weekend Hull have three riders competing in the British Individual Championship’s in The Midlands. Harry Gibson competes in the under 16 qualifier and final at Wednesfield on Saturday. Noah Lyon is in the under 18 qualifier at Wednesfield on Sunday with the Final at Leicester on Monday. Noah and Lewis Foxley are in the Open qualifier at Wednesfield on Saturday with the semi-finals at the same track on Sunday and the Final at Leicester on Monday. Good Luck to all three riders.

Hull clinched the Yorkshire League title, with one match remaining, on a cooler day at The Hessle Raceway. Hull fielded a strong side with Heckmondwike at full strength while closest challengers Sheffield included three under 13’s in their squad. Hull’s top four riders of Harry Gibson, Nathan Everett, Noah Lyon and Jason Keith raced unbeaten while reserves Kacey Bennett and Ryan Tomkinson competed well in their races. Heckmondwike gradually established their second place with Elliot Long riding well in a an all round team display. Kieran Hale led the Sheffield scorers with Matt Parrott also in the racing action. An excellent performance from the Hull side see’s the Yorkshire League trophy return to Hessle after two seasons at Sheffield.

Twenty Four riders competed in the ladder grand prix across eight categories with Hull riders winning the open with Jack Lister, under 16’s with Harry Gibson, veteran’s 55+ with Jason Keith, under 13’s with Jayden Bennett and women’s with Kacey Bennett. Heckmondwike’s Justin Naylor won the veteran’s 40+ and Sheffield’s Joey Athersych and Zak Athersych won the under 10’s and under 8’s. Two of Hull’s newer recruits Jake McConnell and Milo Dixon caught the eye with good displays in the under 16’s and under 8’s.

On Saturday Harry Gibson travelled to East Park, Wolverhampton for the second National round of The British Youth & Junior League. In the under 14 group Harry won all four of his qualifying rides to take a gate one in the ‘A’ Final. He led from the tapes but was unfortunate to pick up an exclusion in a collision with Newport’s Kalem Martin and finished in fourth place overall. Harry is joint top scorer after two events with two matches remaining in the series.

This Sunday Hull are at home in The Yorkshire League with the team fours (Hull v Heckmondwike v Sheffield) at 12 noon followed by the junior ladder (under 8 / 10 / 13) and open ladder (under 16 / open / 40+ / 55+ / women) with ladder registration at 1pm. Hull need to beat Sheffield to claim the Yorkshire League title with the final round remaining at Heckmondwike at the end of September. There will be hot and cold refreshments on sale and there will be toilets, seating and a public address available all with free entry.
