Today is a much needed (almost) full rest day.
I say almost, because I had a morning training session with my online lady. Full body workout. So, because I'm a bit different, and I train along with the people I work with, it was a workout for me, too.
But apart from that, and popping outside a few times, for several minutes of walking around, I'm tapping into that "self care" side.
To be honest, I call everything I do "self care". Training, walking, nutrition, etc. But this is the gentler side.
So I've got my book, a coffee, and put my old faithful "comfies" on.
Easy like Sunday morning!

I've mentioned how much I dislike mobility work before. I have also said how rubbish I am at anything to do with balance.
So today I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, and put both together.
So now I can struggle equally with two things I lack confidence in all in one go!
I am always going on about the importance of "doing hard things", and that goes for me, too!

Easy way to get in more fresh fruit and veggies?
Make a jug of smoothie!
Invest in a basic blender. Throw whatever fruits and veggies you want in there. This one is cabbage, carrot and mixed berries, thawed from the freezer. I also add a teaspoon per serving of turmeric with black pepper (the pepper helps your body absorb the beneficial stuff in turmeric). One jug lasts three or four days. Keeps fine in the fridge in a sealed tub.
I have mine during my morning workout, after a 30 minute "fasted" walk. I add cacao powder and unflavoured protein powder, but you definitely don't need to do that.
Just try not glug it all down at once. That's a lot of carbohydrates for your body to deal with all at once. That's one reason I add the cacao and protein. Slows it all down.
There is absolutely nothing unhealthy about natural, complex carbs like fruit and veggies, of course. But excess of any kind is unhealthy.

I "can't be bothered" warming up or cooling down for my training. But it's important, so I get over myself and do it anyway.
Just a few minutes at either end of the workout is fine. I do dynamic stretches, with the occasional static hold. But static stretches should never be done at the beginning. Please don't do that!
So, is there anything health related that you can't be bothered doing, even though you know you should? It's often far easier than you think.

Drink some water first thing. Doesn't have to be litres of the stuff, lol. Just a few mouthfuls.
Get up and walk around for a few minutes if you've been lounging for an hour (or more, lol).

Eat more fruit and fewer biscuits.
Drink more water and less w**e.
Walk more and sit less.
Cook at home more and use Uber Eats less.

It's not complicated. One small change can make a big difference. And you don't have to do it all at once.
What's one small swap you can try from tomorrow?

Even fitness coaches get sick, lol. Full of cold, and my body forced a full recovery day yesterday. Didn't even get my usual 10,000 steps in! I did pop outside for a ten minute stroll before breakfast, though.
And even though I'm still not great, or even half ok, to be honest, I got myself up and at 'em this morning. Out for half an hour with the beautiful sunrise. Then a half hour training session with my online lady.
She's made amazing progress. We started out with bodyweight moves, just to get her moving. Basic things like standing calf raises, wall push ups, etc. From that to resistance bands, then she wanted more and invested in a few pairs of dumbbells.
It's wonderful to see her progress, and she absolutely thrives on it!
That's why I do what I do, even on days when I'm not at full throttle. Back to listening to my body. I trained with her as I always do, but I dialled myself down a tad. And now both she and I feel good about tackling the rest of our respective day!

The lady I'm training online mentioned this test, from the "Unbreakable" book by
I laughed and said "good luck with that!". Then, because that's often how my crazy brain works, I had to actually try it.
I definitely needed that mat, as it was just too slippy underfoot, otherwise. And I had to really lean into it. Focus on getting my weight onto the outside of the front of my feet. Mostly with my little toes. I was actually really surprised I managed it!
Gotta do hard things sometimes. I won't always manage them, but I'll occasionally surprise myself!

More of that "N.E.A.T." (None Exercise Activity Thermogenisis) today, in the form of climbing onto the motorhome roof, then scrubbing, rinsing and drying it off.
Could I have done this if I didn't do my regular fitness training? Yeah, maybe. But knowing my body is strong, fit and relatively coordinated because of my training, it wasn't quite as risky, daunting and difficult as it could have been.
But no, it doesn't make me any less terrified of heights, lol. Hey, as I said to this morning's online training client, strength training is excellent, but it can't fix everything!

Because I focus on health, fitness and nutrition, I obviously only eat salads, right? Hmm, maybe not..
I definitely need more than salad. But yes, I DO eat a big salad literally every day.
This isn't a scratty bit of wafer thin ham with a handful of lettuce, cucumber and tomato.
It's one of MY salads. And it's epic.
And now, after ploughing through all of that, I'm pretty much stuffed!

I try to think of things I'm grateful for each day. Sometimes it might be something really significant, like travelling back over to Yorkshire to see at least one of my three beloved sons, or something seemingly ordinary like this -
A cup of fresh, strong coffee with breakfast.
That's usually after my early walk and my home workout. I have a protein, fruit and veggie smoothie during the workout, btw.
Fasted training is ok for certain types of people, but it isn't right for me for different reasons.
But today was my "day off", so I just had a ten minute walk before breakfast.
So I was also grateful for a rest day. If you train regularly, especially if you strength train, it's pretty important to throw one in, at least once a week.
You don't gain strength or muscle during the workout, you gain them afterwards, when your body has time and space to adapt, grow and get stronger.
