BOXING SCOTLAND have sent a group of five Youth boxers to the European Under-19 Championships in Loznica, Serbia.

The squad consists of Northwestโ€™s Aaron Sarwar (50kg), Hawickโ€™s Rosie Swailes (54kg), Barrheadโ€™s Liam Moohan (55kg), Irvine Vineburghโ€™s Liam Boyd (60kg) and Irvine Vineburghโ€™s Oscar Steele (65kg).

Bantamweight duo Rosie Swailes and Liam Moohan go to the tournament on the back of impressive Gold medal performances at the Four Nations Championships in June, whilst Flyweight Aaron Sarwar and Lightweight Liam Boyd claimed Scottish Golden Gloves titles earlier this year, with Welterweight Oscar Steele a multiple time Scottish Golden Gloves champion.

The event for boxers born 2008 & 2009 will take place at the Lagatar Sports Hall in the city of Loznica, which is located near to the Bosnian & Herzegovina border in the Western part of Serbia.

The competition draw is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening, before the boxing gets underway from Thursday afternoon.

Sam Hickey was the last Scot to medal at a European Youth Championships, taking home Bronze from the competition in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy in 2018.

Can all junior member parents please check our SPOND app that you signed up to, there are training invitations and payment requests that haven't been responded to, we can't organise our sessions if we don't know who is coming , anyone who is struggling to make the monthly payment then please get in touch with us and don't just ignore them, no child will miss out due to financial reasons but if you ignore our requests then they will be turned away , it's up to you the parents to keep in touch with us. If your child no longer wants to attend then please do the decent thing and let us know so we can free up their space to another child, we have a waiting list as long as my arm. Thank you for your understanding ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐ŸฅŠ๐ŸฅŠ

Rosie Swailes has been selected for the European under-19 Boxing Championships that will take place in Loznica, Serbia, in August.

And, having been watching the likes of Niamh Mitchell who she knows compete at Glasgow 2026 recently, the Hawick Boxing Club talent has her eye on being part of Team Scotland at future Commonwealth Games and one day, hopefully, representing Team GB at the Olympics.

Recently the 17-year-old, a full-time athlete with Boxing Scotland who heads through to Glasgow three to five times a week to train while also completing a personal training course and running Rosie Swailes Fitness, became a four-time British champion.

Rosie told us: โ€œEvery time I put on the Scotland vest it is an incredible honour and they are moments Iโ€™ll never forget.

โ€œI am looking forward to going to Serbia soon [August 11 to 22] and my goal is to keep progressing, continue representing Scotland, compete at major international championships and, ultimately, earn selection for events like the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.

โ€œI want to keep improving, make Hawick proud and see how far I can go in the sport.โ€

Rosie took up boxing when she was seven and she went along to Hawick Boxing Club with her brother Mikey.

โ€œI never imagined boxing would become such a huge part of my life, but I quickly fell in love with the sport and have never looked back,โ€ she stated.

โ€œBoxing is a sport where youโ€™re constantly learning and improving and no two days are ever the same. I also love the sense of achievement that comes from seeing my hard work pay off. The sport that it pushes me physically and mentally while Iโ€™ve also made lifelong friends, had the opportunity to travel the world representing Scotland and experienced things I never would have without boxing.

โ€œAnd I honestly wouldnโ€™t be where I am today without Hawick Boxing Club and the support of the local community and local businesses, thank you to everyone.โ€

Rosieโ€™s mum Shirley added: โ€œAs a family, we are incredibly proud of Rosie and everything she has achieved. The dedication, commitment and sacrifices she has made have been remarkable and we know that this is only the beginning of her journey.

โ€œA huge thank you to Hawick Boxing Club, Boxing Scotland, the amazing Hawick community and to everyone who supports Rosie financially for all your continued support.โ€

โ€ข Hawick Boxing Club coach Andy Macfarlane has hailed Rosie and fellow young gun Liam Rutherford as โ€œstandoutโ€ boxers.

He said: โ€œRosie and Liam are two standout boxers in the gym and this is due to their dedication.

โ€œBoth came into the gym around 10 years ago and fell in love with boxing. They both stuck with it and worked hard and are now at the very top of the game.

โ€œBoth are regarded as amongst the best in the UK and beyond for their age and they are very well-mannered and upstanding young people who always go out of their way to help others.โ€
