Photodump from HYR U18s game down at Dumfries U18s today which ended with a 29-19 win for our boys in Green !!

Try scorers for Hawick were Kuba Wydro, Max Ferguson, Leo Laurie and two from Ben Shiel with the extras coming from the boot of Liam Riddell who drop-kicked 2 conversions

It proved to be a really good test for the boys as they prepare for next weeks opening Border Semi-Junior League home game against Melrose at the Volunteer, kick off at 3pm.

Big thanks again to our wonderful travelling support who made the trip down today as I know the boys really appreciate it !!

Photodump from HYR U18s games at yesterday's Gala Wanderers 7s tournament and well done to the boys for getting through the pool games into the semi-final in warm and hard underfoot conditions with wins against Kelso Quins (14-12), Peebles Colts (36-10), Morpeth Colts 45-0 and a 17-12 defeat to Melrose Wasps. The semi-final saw our lads face a strong and well drilled Tynedale Colts side who made better use of their possession and so it was them who progressed to the final winning 40-14 in the end.

Next Saturday we're back 15-a-side action as both our U18s and U16s head to Dumfries for our last pre-season friendly before the Border Semi Junior League kicks off on Saturday 29th August where we will be hosting Melrose at the Volunteer Park - kick off 3pm.

we’re gutted for them after all the work and preparation that’s gone into this event…

Message from the President:

I’m really sorry to be posting this at this time of night but unfortunately we have been left with no choice but to CANCEL tomorrow’s tournament.

Over the last couple of weeks we have had 3 clubs call off including 1 last night and 1 not even an hour ago… I am bitterly disappointed but what can we do. The amount of work, effort and planning that has gone into this day seems to go unnoticed and the consideration for our tournament as a whole has left me utterly frustrated.

I would firstly like to thank my committee for helping arrange this day albeit it’s not going ahead and to the teams that had lined up to compete.

Thanks to all sponsors who were on hand to support the club again and I’ll be in touch with you about the situation and what we can do moving forward.

Thanks to Hawick Mini Rugby who were due to run a cake and candy stall to raise money for their tour and thanks to Eddie Brogan of Hawick RFC for accommodating them at their game tomorrow so it doesn’t go to waste. The club will make a healthy donation over the coming season to make up for this disappointment.

Finally thanks to Bake and inflate for their kindness in allowing us to rearrange the Bouncy Castle this late in the day.

Once again I’d like to apologise to everyone who had their days planned and to all players/coaches who were ready for our season to get underway, we can only look ahead to our first 15s friendly at home to Stewartry next weekend at the Volunteer in which we hope to see you all there.

Times are very tough in rugby right over the board at the minute with many clubs struggling and we can only take this into consideration instead of pointing blame although it doesn’t seem that way just now. We will like we always do will pick ourselves and look to get going going again. With all hope we aim to run this tournament in April when more clubs will be keen on playing 7s.

Tomorrow the clubrooms will be open from 12pm-3pm or later with all welcome as we have around £400 of food sitting there we don’t want to go to waste. The bar will be open during this period. More the merrier as we still look to enjoy the day.

Team Training will be from 11am-12pm and all are welcome for a Saturday run around.

Sorry everyone and we hope to see you all up at the club tomorrow for a bit training, a bite to eat or a couple of drinks and if not we will catch you all up the Volunteer next weekend or later in the season.

Many thanks,
Kieran

Our U18s Captain this season…

Hanna Al Khoury says he is “proud and honoured” to have been named the Hawick Youth Rugby under-18 captain for 2026/27.

The 17-year-old loosehead prop was part of the under-18 squad that had such a brilliant campaign last season and now he will be leading from the front going forward.

“I really enjoy being part of the club,” Hanna told us.

“We're lucky with the opportunities being part of Hawick Youth Rugby gives us, and the coaches, committee, families and the wider local community are always so supportive.

“I feel very proud and honoured to now be captain and to get the chance to lead such a great group of boys during the upcoming season. I’m really looking forward to getting the season going with some new lads coming up from the under-16s to join us.”

Hanna went to Drumlanrig St. Cuthbert's Primary School and just finished at Hawick High School before the summer. He took up rugby with Hawick Mini Rugby and has since played for the high school, Hawick Youth and Borders and East Lothian age-grade teams.

Here's our first photodump of the new season as the U18s were in action yesterday at Peebles Colts 7s and although we managed a 28-21 win against Gala Wanderers in the first pool game then drew 14-14 with Jed Thistle in the other pool tie, it was Jed who progressed as their 29-5 win over Gala meant they topped the pool.

It was still a good run out of some of the young boys coming up from 16s this season who stepped up and got stuck in and certainly held their own in two physical games.

Thanks to all our supporters who made the trip over to Peebles and thanks and to Peebles for hosting what turned out for them to be a successful day on the pitch too.
