I might not be organising the Ken Laidlaw this year but I do organise our club confined Sunday runs and plan to include all three Ken Laidlaw Routes at some point in the coming year. So it has crossed my mind that if you wanted to ride the routes in some great company then the solution is to join Hawick Cycling Club. Okay, there’s no pizza or signs just the the joy of the ride with club members. I’ll even be able to ride with you. I might even throw in a bottle, buff or a medal if you collect them. Be warned though there’s a good few racing snakes in the club so it could be pacy. If you live outwith the Borders membership is a fiver - not a bad price for all three routes!

Ken Laidlaw Sportive
Ken started his cycling career with Hawick Cycling Club.
The Ken Laidlaw Sportive is an annual event that celebrates to achievements of Ken Laidlaw who was the first Scottish cyclist to complete the Tour de France back in 1961.
Hi Everyone,
I have tried to interest others from Hawick CC in taking over the organisation of the Ken Laidlaw Sportive from me without any luck. I understand why as it is a massive undertaking. The reward is seeing people enjoying themselves on the day. But I am standing down after 8 years of organising. With no one to lead the event we have made the decision to discontinue it from this year. I will keep our page open just in case we are able to revive it in the future. You will be the first to know.
Apologies

We are looking for cyclists to join Scottish Borders Zwift racing teams over the autumn and winter. You don’t need to be a Hawick Cycling Club member and it is a great way to keep fit over the dark winter evenings. You do need to be an active member of the Zwift community to take part, however. Direct message us if you are interested.

Good News!
After considering all your comments and finding a new and willing lead organiser we will be running the Ken Laidlaw Sportive in 2026.
The date for your diaries:
Sunday 14 June 2026
We are planning to have a review of this year’s event so I would like to ask the same questions of any of you who rode the Ken Laidlaw this year that I asked the volunteers.
What should we continue to include?
What should we change to make it better?
What should we not do again?

Here’s a wee video (link below) just to give a flavour of last Sunday’s Ken Laidlaw Sportive. Many thanks to those in Hawick Camera Club who took the brilliant still images, my video shots were not so great as I had to concentrate on the Marshalling part. And a big thanks to David Killean and team for excellent organising👍

That’s the Ken Laidlaw Sportive over for another year and time for me signing off as the main organiser. I hope to find someone who is willing to take it on within Hawick Cycling Club, but if not we may need to rest the event for a while. I’ve enjoyed my time as the main organiser but after 8 years it is time for someone else to take it on. Thank you to everyone who had taken part and helped make it a great cycling event.

We know the Ken Laidlaw is not a race. However some people do like to know the fastest times each year, so here you go…
