🏆 SIGNPOST PAINTS SUMMER KNOCKOUT CHAMPION

Congratulations to Dave Quinney, who has been crowned our 2026 Signpost Paints Summer Knockout Champion after defeating Charlie Hammond 2&1 in the final.

Both players have produced some outstanding golf throughout the summer, battling their way through four rounds of knockout matches to earn their places in the final.

The final proved just as competitive, with some excellent golf from both players before Dave eventually came out on top to take the title. Congratulations Dave! 👏

A special mention must also go to Charlie. Reaching the final of a scratch knockout competition as a junior is some achievement and another example of the exceptional golf he has played throughout the summer. A brilliant effort and plenty to be proud of.

Well done to both players on a fantastic competition and congratulations once again to our champion, Dave Quinney! 🏆⛳

🏆 WOODLANDS CUP RESULTS 🏆

Congratulations to Steve Robinson & Steven Furniaux, our 2026 Woodlands Cup winners! 👏

A very close competition saw the top two pairs both finish on an excellent 45 Stableford points, with Steve & Steven taking the trophy on countback.

🏆 Dave Quinney Trophy – Junior Competition Results

Congratulations to Oliver Grant, winner of the Dave Quinney Trophy after a brilliant 38 Stableford points in some extremely windy and challenging conditions!

It was a very close contest, with Arlo David finishing just one point behind on 37 points, while Tommy Shinn secured third place with 36 points.

Some excellent scoring considering the conditions and another great showing from our HGC juniors. 👏

⛳ 6TH HOLE BUNKER UPDATE ⛳

What a difference a week makes!

These latest pictures give us our best look yet at the brand new bunker layout surrounding the 6th green, and we are incredibly pleased with how the project is taking shape.

A huge amount of progress has been made this week.

The old approach fairway bunker has now been completely filled in, topped with new soil and seeded ready for new growth. The same work has also been completed on the old right hand fairway bunker.

The TWO NEW approach bunkers are now in place, while the greenside bunkers have been completely reshaped as part of the new design.

With the construction work complete, new turf has now been laid around the bunkers and surrounding areas. Our greens team expect this to take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to establish and properly knit together.

Once the turf is ready, we can move on to one of the final stages of the project, filling the new bunkers with fresh China clay bunker sand.

The wider area has also been extensively seeded to help repair and recover the ground following all of the heavy machinery and construction work involved over the past few weeks.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS

While the new turf establishes, the entire affected area will be classed as G.U.R. and clearly marked. Players should take free relief accordingly into a playable area.

There is still some time to go before everything is fully established and ready for play, but seeing the new layout from above really shows just how much the 6th has changed.

A massive thank you once again to our greens team for the incredible amount of work they have put into this project, alongside Countrywide Golf Contractors and CapillaryFlow, incorporating the new Capillary® Edgevantage™ bunker technology.

We would also like to thank all of our members and visitors for their patience and understanding while the work has been carried out.

We are extremely pleased with the result so far and cannot wait to see everything established, the new sand in place and the finished 6th ready for play.

A fantastic result for Haverhill Golf Club on the road!

Congratulations to Pat Kennedy and Maggie Lambert who have successfully retained the Suffolk Ladies County Vets 4BBB Trophy.

After winning the competition here at Haverhill last year, Pat and Maggie travelled to Halesworth Golf Club to defend their title and did so in style, returning a superb 42 points to take victory by four points. Second place finished on 38 points, with third on 37.

Back to back champions and another brilliant result for our Haverhill ladies representing the club away from home.

Congratulations Pat and Maggie. A fantastic achievement and very well deserved! ⛳🏆

⛳ WHAT’S ACTUALLY GOING INTO OUR NEW BUNKERS?

The transformation of the bunkers surrounding our 6th green continues, and this time we’re taking a closer look at what is actually going on beneath the surface.

Working alongside Countrywide Golf Contractors and , our greens team are installing a completely new bunker system as part of the redesign of the 6th.

And we’re very proud that Haverhill Golf Club is the FIRST golf club in the UK to have the brand new Capillary® Edgevantage™ system installed!

At the base of the bunkers is Capillary Concrete, creating a highly effective drainage layer beneath the bunker sand. The system allows excess water to drain rapidly through the bunker while helping maintain moisture within the sand, improving stability and helping to reduce washouts, contamination and ongoing maintenance.

The new Edgevantage technology then takes that system right up to the bunker edges, creating a stronger and more stable structure behind the turf. It is designed to help maintain the shape and integrity of the bunker edges while also helping provide moisture to the turf surrounding them.

There is a huge amount happening beneath the surface that golfers will never normally see!

Combine all of that technology with the completely redesigned bunker layout on the approach and around the 6th green, and we should have bunkers that not only look fantastic but perform more consistently and stand up much better to the British weather.

Following the work on our 1st hole last year, this is another major step forward in the continued development of the course at HGC.

⛳️ NATIONAL THANK A GREENKEEPER DAY 💚

Today is National Thank a Greenkeeper Day, and there’s no better opportunity to recognise the incredible work our greens team put in here at HGC.

Much of what they do happens before most of us have even arrived at the club. Early mornings, long days, all weather conditions and countless hours of work go into preparing, maintaining and continually improving the course we all get to enjoy.

And this year in particular, they’ve certainly been put to the test. From battling one of the hottest and driest summers we’ve experienced, to major greens maintenance, drill and fill work, course improvements and now the huge redevelopment of the bunkers around our 6th green, it’s been a seriously busy few months.

A golf course never stands still, and neither does the work that goes into looking after it.

So today we’d like to say a massive THANK YOU to our brilliant greens team for everything they do for Haverhill Golf Club. 👏💚

Next time you see one of them out on the course, make sure you give them a wave, a smile or simply say thanks. It’s thoroughly deserved!

⛳ A LOT GOES INTO BUILDING A BUNKER! ⛳

You might be surprised just how much work goes into creating a completely new bunker layout!

The transformation around our 6th green is well underway and this reel gives you a look behind the scenes at just some of what has been involved so far.

Heavy plant machinery, excavation, manual digging, shaping, concrete work, drainage, preparation and plenty of good old fashioned graft!

Our greens team have been working alongside Countrywide Golf Contractors and CapillaryFlow as the new bunker layout starts to take shape, incorporating the brand new Capillary® Edgevantage™ technology.

There have certainly been no shortage of people, machinery or wheelbarrows involved! 😂

It has been all hands on deck and our greens team are definitely earning their breaks this month!

Projects like this really highlight the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to continually improve the course. What eventually looks like a beautifully shaped bunker starts with a huge amount of planning, digging, construction and attention to detail.

The new look 6th is coming together nicely and we cannot wait to show you the finished result.

⛳ TRANSFORMING THE 6TH AT HGC ⛳

There is some serious work taking place around our 6th green as we continue investing in and improving the course at Haverhill Golf Club.

Our greens team are working alongside Countrywide Golf Contractors and to completely redesign and rebuild the bunkering around the 6th green.

And there is something particularly exciting about this project…

Haverhill Golf Club will be the FIRST golf course in Europe to use CapillaryFlow’s brand new Capillary® Edgevantage™ technology!

So what does that mean?

Edgevantage is a new bunker edge construction system designed to create stronger, more durable and stable bunker edges. Installed vertically and locked into the Capillary® foundation beneath the bunker, it supports the turf and soil from behind to help the bunker retain its intended shape.

The system also incorporates moisture cups which retain water around the bunker edge, helping keep the turf hydrated while reducing edge collapse and deterioration.

Beneath the sand, the Capillary® bunker liner system is designed to rapidly remove excess water while retaining the right amount of moisture within the bunker sand. This means improved drainage, fewer washouts, better sand stability and more consistent playing conditions throughout the year.

CapillaryFlow state that the system can drain water at around 2,500mm per hour!

But we aren’t simply rebuilding what was already there.

A NEW BUNKER LAYOUT is also being created on the approach to the 6th and around the green, changing both the appearance and strategy of the hole.

Following the transformation of our 1st hole last year, this is another exciting step in the continued development of HGC.

It has been a very busy few days with all hands on deck and there is plenty more to come.

🏌️ THE HOOT 2026… WHAT A YEAR!

Another Hoot season is officially in the books and the numbers show just how popular our Tuesday evenings continue to be at HGC!

Across 21 weeks we saw an incredible 1,537 rounds of golf played by 178 different players.

With the Hoot played over 10 holes, that means a whopping 15,370 holes of golf were played throughout the season! 😳⛳️

We averaged 73 players every week, peaked at an amazing 86 players on our busiest evening and even our quietest week still saw 58 golfers taking part.

And somehow, across 21 weeks of British weather, we had just ONE rain affected evening! ☀️😂

There were 90 different prize winners throughout the season, meaning more than half of everyone who played managed to get their hands on some prize money at some point!

Our biggest Stableford scores of the year were:

🏆 High Section: 30 points
🏆 Mid Section: 27 points
🏆 Low Section: 26 points

Then there was the season long Eclectic competition.

For anyone wondering how this works, your best gross score achieved on each individual Hoot hole across all 21 weeks is combined to create your ultimate 10 hole round.

Our 2026 Eclectic Section Champions were:

🏆 High Section: Steve Foulds with 36
🏆 Mid Section: Tim Daniels with 34
🏆 Low Section: Lyndon Brown with an incredible 29!

The Mid Section couldn’t have been much closer, with Tim Daniels, Paul Turner and Kieran Ager ALL finishing on 34 and the final positions having to be decided on countback!

Financially, the Hoot generated £4,902 across the 21 weeks, with thousands returned through weekly prizes, nearest the pin, draws, Eclectic and Texas Scramble prizes, while still leaving £2,261 in Hoot funds.

And perhaps one of the most impressive statistics of all…

2025 saw 1,548 rounds played.

2026 saw 1,537.

Just 11 rounds difference across an entire season! 👏

A very special thank you must go to Elaine and Anne for the amazing effort they have put into running the Hoot so wonderfully once again this year. 👏

Organising 21 weeks and keeping everything running smoothly for an average of 73 golfers every Tuesday evening is no small task. The Hoot continues to be such a popular and enjoyable part of the HGC calendar and that simply wouldn’t happen without the time, effort and commitment they put into it. A huge thank you from everyone at HGC! ❤️

And of course, thank you to everyone who played, helped, supported and contributed throughout another fantastic season.
