YOUTH RUGBY ROUND-UP
Another busy Sunday for our Wanderers youth teams, with plenty of effort, development and great rugby on display! π
U14 Girls 25β25 Marr
A fantastic first game under the new U14 rules! The girls should be incredibly proud, with plenty of positives and lots to build on in training. π
π Tries: Eve, Lois, Emma x2, Lily
β POTM: Rebecca , excellent rucking, defence and support play in attack.
A brilliant 25β25 finish!
U16 Girls
A tough start to the league with a 50β0 defeat to Ayr. The girls moved into a development game and showed some great rugby. Plenty to take forward and build on.
U14 Boys
A long trip to Annan became tougher with last-minute injuries and illness leaving the boys down to five.
The boys merged with Strathaven and Annan for a competitive game, with everyone getting at least 40 minutes most playing the full 60.
Great tackles, carries and tries from Ruaridh and Michael, who was making his first appearance!
Brilliant to see the boys getting stuck in and enjoying their rugby.
U13 Boys 10β61 Bishopton
A tough away game, but the boys showed great improvement from last week and battled right to the final whistle.
π Tries: Lyle & Dan
β POTM: Lyle & Kian

Today marks a pretty special milestone for Leigh Tyley, as he makes his 250th 1st XV appearance for Greenock Wanderers against Strathaven.
Leighβs Wanderers story started long before his senior debut. Having come through the clubβs Minis and Midis sections, he made his 1st XV debut in September 2008.
There was a short spell away from the club with Glasgow Hawks, where he got the opportunity to test himself in Premiership rugby, before returning to the Wanderers and continuing what has become a long-standing career.
Primarily a fullback, Leigh has been a mainstay of the 1st XV for many years, while also turning his hand to various other roles across the backline whenever required.
There have been plenty of highlights along the way, including being part of the 2009/10 National 2 League-winning side and the highly successful 2018/19 season.
That 2018/19 side went on to win both the West 1 League and West Regional Cup, with Leigh captaining the team. They were also just one game away from completing a treble, eventually finishing runners-up in the National Shield.
Leigh continued as 1st XV captain from 2018 to 2021, leading the team through some memorable seasons.
Now, 18 years after making his senior debut, he reaches the big 250.
250 appearances. Two league titles. A cup double. One very nearly successful treble.
And, presumably, a fair number of sore arms and questionable decisions along the way.
A fantastic achievement for someone who has been such a big part of Greenock Wanderers for so many years.
Congratulations, Leigh
