Grantham Town Women FC are back in LWGFL Championship action this Sunday as we hit the road to face Barton United.

After a weekend without a game, the players will be raring to get back out there and looking to pick up exactly where they left off after an impressive 4–0 victory in their previous outing.

🚨 MATCH CANCELLED 🚨

Unfortunately, we’ve been informed by our opponents North Lindum Hawks this morning that they have had to CANCEL today’s match due to a lack of players.

As a result, the planned opening of The Canstand after today’s game will also be POSTPONED until our next home fixture.

We’re disappointed not to be playing today, but we’ll be back!

OUR FIRST WIN. OUR FIRST THREE POINTS. A PROUD DAY FOR GTWFC!

A fully deserved three points on the road today as Grantham Town Women FC recorded their first victory!

And what a way to do it. A proper TEAM performance from start to finish, with every single player playing their part.

⚽️ Macey Warburton opened the scoring with a beautifully taken finish, producing a deft lob over the advancing keeper to put Grantham ahead.

⚽️ Grace Bailey then produced the GOAL OF THE GAME! Racing down the right wing, Grace cut inside to the edge of the box before unleashing an absolute rocket into the far top corner. The keeper simply had no chance!

⚽️ Izzy Welby made it three in the second half, reacting quickest after the keeper saved her initial effort and making no mistake with the rebound.

⚽️ Megan Thacker completed the scoring after Welby produced a defence-splitting pass to send her through on goal. Thacker kept her composure and calmly slotted the ball beyond the keeper to make it FOUR!

⭐ PLAYER OF THE MATCH
REBECCA COOPER ⭐️

A commanding performance at the back from Rebecca, keeping the defence organised, composed and difficult to break down as Grantham recorded a fantastic clean sheet.

For the coaches, today was an incredibly proud moment.

Only a few months ago, this team didn’t even exist.

Today, we watched the players take our ideas onto the pitch, play with confidence and composure, fight for each other and earn the first three points for Grantham Town Women FC.

We are improving every single week.

Today was another big step forward.

Today wasn’t the result we were after, but there are plenty of positives to take from the performance.

After a slow start, the players showed great character and worked hard to get themselves back into the game. We created chances, played some really good football for large parts of the game and saw some excellent individual performances across the pitch.

A commanding performance in the middle and thoroughly deserved.

Plenty to build on, plenty to work on, and we keep moving forward together.
