The Abbeymead Rovers Vets team returned to action this past weekend against local rivals in what was a very competitive friendly - with Mead Vets running out 4-1 winners on the day 💪🏻

This week sees the return of District fixtures with our First XI making the trip to Sharpness Afc Reserves 💪🏻

Our Reserves meanwhile host and our 3’s host in friendlies as they continue their preparation for the season 👊🏻

A tough day at the office this weekend for the lads 😮‍💨

A mixed 1’s and 2’s side made the short trip to .levensafc, falling to a 4-1 defeat.

The 3’s started brightly, taking an early lead against Montpellier Reserves, but the final quarter showed that too many changes and inconsistency can be costly.

We go again in the run up to the season.

The First XI game is at Heron, not Winchcombe 😂

Tomorrow sees our First XI take on for a midweek fixture as we continue pre-season 👊🏻

The weekend sees a double header as our Reserves and 3rd teams face Alverston Reserves and 3rd teams respectively.

Last week saw a mid-week fixture for the 1st team, making the trip over to Bishops Cleeve to play against their A Side. Plenty of changes and rotations, giving manager Gary Mabbett plenty to think about 🤔 Player of the Match was 👊🏻

The weekend then saw the 2nd team take on Hardwicke Reserves, with players both stepping up and dropping down respectively from the 3rds and 2nds. Player of the Match was with a commanding presence in the sticks, helping to earn a great result for managers and Deven Capstick 👏🏻

This season is certainly shaping up to be an exciting one 🎯

2026 WFA NATIONAL CUP 4TH ROUND

Spurred on by fantastic support the 60s team qualified for the National Finals with a 2-1 victory over Stratford with goals from Allen Wintle (penalty) and Pete Lane.

The finals day is in early September in Nottingham: Abbeymead flying the flag🥳

Our Over 60s’ excellent first WFA National Cup campaign came to an end in the Cotswolds Regional Final following a closely contested match between two evenly matched teams.

Mark Habberley gave Stratford the lead, but Abbeymead equalised from the penalty spot before half-time after a defender stepped into the penalty area.

Both sides created opportunities during a competitive second half, before Abbeymead scored on the break with just five minutes remaining to secure their place at the National Finals.

Although the result didn’t go our way, the squad can be extremely proud of its performance and everything achieved during our first National Cup journey.

Congratulations to Abbeymead Rovers, and we wish them every success at the National Finals. 🟠🔵

The newly formed Abbeymead 3rds are looking to schedule some friendlies as we continue the run up to the start of the season..

We’re currently occupying Division 4 North in the having inherited it from the departing 3rd team - ideally we are looking for teams at a similar level or below so that we can get an idea of where we are at - if the dates don’t work, please get in touch and we’ll try and work something out 🙏🏻

We’ve had 88 minutes as a group so very early days for us!
