Deepak's all round skills were well demonstrated in a game v Galloway where he smashed 95 and also took 5 wickets. We thank Deepak for his support!

“VIGILANT “ DUMFRIES TOO STRONG FOR HILLHEAD AT HUGHENDEN
Hillhead 1st X1 60 all out ( 29 overs ) 0 pts Vigilant Dumfries 62 for 1 ( 14 overs ) 25 pts
On a blameless wicket and with an outfield benefitting from the recent baking hot weather, the hosts succumbed rather meekly to a 9 wicket defeat from visitors Dumfries. Yet the early stages of the Hillhead innings gave no hints of the later collapse. Openers Henry James and Krushnesh Patel did well to keep out the probing medium pace of Nairn Cobbon and the left arm spin of Chris Brockwell to take their side unhurriedly to 36 for no loss after 14 overs. However the introduction of change bowlers, medium pacer, Tommy McGrath, and off break bowler, Reynolds-Lewis, was the catalyst for a home collapse.
In the space of 15 overs, the double change Dumfries bowlers shared 8 wickets for only 26 runs, the spinner being particularly impressive with his flighted deliveries, returning 5-16 off his 9 over spell.
A total of 60 looked flimsy in the extreme. And, despite a rain break, Dumfries saw off testing spells from Hillhead’s opening bowlers, Agrim Jain, and Isaac Howell to race to their total in only 14 overs. Veteran opener, Chris Bellwood, was particularly damaging with virtually a run a ball 39 not out, finishing with a maximum.
Hillhead were then soundly defeated, but now have the chance to regroup before facing East Kilbride again at home on Saturday July 4, start 12.00. Visitors East Kilbride and Hillhead currently lie bottom and second bottom respectively of the WDCU premiership 2 table.

This weekend's ball sponsors are the Mitchell Family. Bernie needs little introduction - he had 23 years as a player including a reign of nearly 10 years as Thirds skipper ending in 2009. As a "crafty" bowler, Bernie "befuddled" many an unsuspecting batsman. He also has performed virtually all committee roles at HCC including President and is currently First Eleven scorer. Bernie's two sons, Colin and David have also contributed to HCC over the years - David (Mini) was a cricketer of some natural talent and Colin served as First Eleven scorer - albeit Bernie seems to think he could have kept a "tidier book!" We thank the Mitchell "boys" for their support for HCC.

HILLHEAD 1st X1 SCRAMBLE A VALUABLE LEAGUE POINT IN 63 RUN DEFEAT AT LANGSIDE
Langside 1st X1 165 all out in 35.1 overs ( 25 pts) Hillhead 1st X1 102 all out in 26.5 overs (1 pt )
In contrast to other grounds in the Glasgow area where the recent spell ( s ) of heavy rain ruled out any play, the cricketers of home Club, Langside, and visitors. Hillhead, were grateful to get out and play. The toss, always important in these situations, was won by visiting captain, Keshav Soni, who wasted no time in asking the hosts to bat.
Early success for opening bowlers, Agrim Jain and Jacques Grosvenor, had the hosts at 4 for 2 but Langside’s middle order with Khan and Anwar prominent, 49 and 33 respectively, took the game away from the visitors. However, it took an inspired spell of spin bowling from Si Kumar Rokkam , who returned figures of 7.1 –1-19-4, to put the visitors back in contention. Certainly he was backed up in the field with Harish Ravichandran taking a wonderful diving catch at square leg, and wicket keeper, Andrew Sweeney, adding two catches. But the rest of the attack suffered from lack of consistency, and were, again, profligate with wides, contributing 24 to the hosts total of 165.
For their part, Hillhead could neither build partnerships nor find the gaps which the hosts did. James Thornhill compiled a tenacious 14, while captain Keshav Soni swung effectively to add 13, but the remainder of their replies were in single figures. Extras were also generous with Langside making the main contribution to Hillhead’s reply with 21 wides. Hillhead were unable to fully complete their innings as Quaiser Mustafa had to retire with very urgent business, his partner going into labour.
That was exciting enough, as well as Hillhead’s objective to secure at least 1 batting point from the game, 60% of 165, which ended successfully courtesy of 2 wides in the last over bowled. It was that kind of game.
Hillhead now return to Hughenden for the final game of round 1 when they entertain Dumfries on Saturday June 27.

Our ball sponsor for this weekend is Eric Meiklejohn .
Eric played for the club over 31 seasons from 1975 and finished his playing days in 2005 so a "career" of 31 years! Eric was President from 1999 – 2002 and Treasurer for 25 years (yes 25!!!) between 1984 and 2009. Take note Stephen Rutherford!
One of Eric's most memorable League games was at Dunlop in Ayrshire. HCC bowled first and the late Eddie Rose was on a hat-trick twice in the innings. The first time, he had a plumb LBW shout turned down on his hat-trick ball and then went on to actually achieve the feat later in the innings. When Hillhead batted, the Dunlop opening bowler took 9 wickets. Eric recalls there were 7 first-ball dismissals that day over the two innings… himself included!
We thank Eric for his past service to the Club and for his ongoing support.

This weekend's ball sponsor is Kenny Blackwood. Kenny joined Hillhead in 1990 and whilst still a club member has played for Perth Doo'cot since 2025. A hard hitting batsman, Kenny has achieved the unusual feat of scoring hundreds in separate centuries for HCC in 1999 and 2001 against Hillend and Helensburgh! He also was involved in a 199 run partnership in a game vs Vale of Leven. We thank Kenny for his ongoing support for HCC!
