Progress is Possibleš£ļø
The Praxis Approach was inspired by own challenges growing up as a passionate young athlete. Despite my strong work ethic and tactical understanding, I always struggled to make an impact when it mattered most on the pitch due to my lack of intensityā
Being one of the smallest in my team impacted my confidence and willingness to compete physically due to fear of failure. It wasnāt until I arrived at the University of Glasgow when I realised that Athleticsm was something that could be developed in each individual regardless of their genetic profileāļø
Two years of Sports Science Delivery at Kilmarnock Boys and Rangers Girls Academy showed me the specialist approach that is required to build Speed, Strength and Injury Resilience long-termš
Now my mission is to empower the next generation of young athletes with the knowledge and support they need to feel proud of their performances on a consistent basis. We want to make sure no one falls through the cracks due to lack of accessibility and look forward to providing more free opportunities to gain individualised feedbackš
Ahead of our next testing day at the start of August, we will be delivering small-group sessions all summer to ensure that our athleteās are making data-driven progress towards their goalsš

Fuelling the Ferarrišļøš“ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó “ó æ
As we come to the end of a the season, itās important to reflect on what went well and what areas can be optimised to maximise progression going into the new seasonš
One of the biggest area of concern with parents of passionate young athletes is training load. While itās natural for them to want to spend as much time active as possible, especially when the weather is good, itās important to remember that the body can only adapt from what it recovers fromāļøā
When you also consider the energy that is used to facilitate key growth and maturation phases, itās no surprise that a lot of young athletes are underfueled for the demands of their lifestyleš
Us Scots are not used to sky-splitting sun, which is why our body is using more energy to manage its internal temperature. Now more than ever, we recommend Youth Sports Nutritionās Berry Oat Bars as a convenient whole food option for replacing lost calories and reducing the negative effects overtrainingš
As ex Premier League Sports Scinetists, they share our values of supporting the community with their biggest lifestyle challenges. Their tasty bars are packed with 41g of carbohydrates, providing an stress-free solution to fuelling up around training and gamesšŖ
The key to long-term success is building independence. Handing out these bars across our 16 weekly sessions acted as a positive step towards maximising their own potential. Because after all, thereās no point in having a Ferrari in the driveway if it hasnāt got the fuel to moveā”ļø
Without carbohydrates, the muscles will not be able to produce the amount of force required to complete high speed movements on a consistent basis without experiencing fatigue and potential injuryš„

How can youth athletic testing benefit children?
With the Scottish national team playing at the World Cup verses Brazil we can already see trends of what makes the difference in games. Max velocity is a critical element of the game; more speed, fast cuts, and general athleticism are major keys in the modern game of football. The great news? this can be trained similar to how technical skill on the ball can be worked on!
One of the first steps to developing soul crushing speed and eye watering athleticism is to test it. This can help us individualise training to what the athlete needs. At a certain level training should be specific to whatās identified as deficits in performance, be it top end speed, acceleration, power, strength etc?
The biggest benefit is the confidence it can give young athletes. To put a number to what they do, to see progress, does a number on confidence not just in sports but in daily life!
When we ran our initial athlete testing session in May, a parent sent a really thoughtful message which perfectly speaks to the exact goal of these testing sessions!
āHeās given a clear picture of where he stands and where he can grow which is incredibly motivating for him and for usā

Mindful Movementš
Ahead of Scotlandās first World Cup Campaign in many of our lifetimes, we were invited into Hampden to deliver a workshop on the role of off-pitch habits in achieving consistent performance levelsš
Whether its in Sport, Academics, Music or Art- the standard is set way before the competition beginsš§
No performer can reach their full potential without the right lifestyle, regardless of how talented they areāļø
Thatās why we educate our athletes how to take ownership of these habits ā giving them practical, actionable strategies they can apply to perform with fluidityšØ

The Mctominey header challenge was a hit last weekend at the giffnock football festival. We saw hundreds of young footballers in Glasgow try the challenge and only a few managed it.
It really highlighted the importance of individuality, everyone is on their own journey at their own pace. Some are early developers others are late bloomers, we all fall on a spectrum between these two. The majority of coaching will be a one size fits all approach, not taking into account the nuances of what an individual needs. At EPL we specialise in this process helping athletes of all ages reach their potential, leaving no stone unturned!
Seeing Scotland last night further highlighted the individual differences and their importance. It reminded me of seeing an interview where Scott Mctominey discusses being a late developer. Under the wrong system, athletes with potential can and will fall through the cracks. Without the right team behind them the likelihood of this occurring increases. Young aspiring athlete need positive role models surrounding them, as the old adage goes surround yourself with four millionaires and youāll be the fifth. Does your coach practice what they preach?

For anyone interested: The challenge was set a 2.53m, allegedly this was Mctomineyās peak boot height on his famous bicycle kick against Denmark that sent Scotland to the World Cup! It such an exciting time in Scottish football, weāre glad to offer support for young aspiring athletes!

As we watch our fellow Scots represent the nation on Footballās biggest stage, itās easy to focus in on the highlights āthe duels, the goals, the celebrations, and the resultsš
What we donāt see are the thousands of hours spent learning, adapting, failing, improving, and showing up when there were doubtsš
At Praxis, our Athletic Development Programme isnāt about producing the perfect player. Itās about developing confident, capable, and resilient people who understand their unique strengths and can apply them under pressure when it matters mostš„
Every athleteās journey is different. Some develop physically earlier than others and experience success quickly, while others take longer to find their place in the game...
Itās important to remember that youth sports is a marathon not a sprint- where showing up consistently is the greatest indicator of long term successš
The goal should not be to compare journeysāitās should be to create an environment where every young person is challenged relative to their specific stage of developmentš
By celebrating effort over outcomes, we encourage them to chase marginal gains and dream big. Over time, this gives them the best chance of achieving their goalsāboth in sport and lifeš
As superstars like McGinn inspire us all, itās important remember that every elite performer was once a young athlete who needed support. Their success is a reminder that greatness is rarely the result of a single moment but by never giving upš
