Lenzie Volleyball Club

With the weather now back to typical Scottish summer temperatures and some rain and wind thrown in for good measure 😩 Now is the time to look forward to indoor volleyball season😀 Lenzie Volleyball Club are looking for new players to help us rebuild the team following the loss of players to injury, work commitments and becoming (soon) a dad! Come along to one of our training sessions 7-9pm on a Monday or Thursday night to see if we are the club for you! We even have a game scheduled on the Monday 7th September against Motherwell Volleyball Invitational at Lenzie Academy so come along and get a sense of the people, the place and see if we can help you on the next step of your volleyball journey . I would normally have attached a link to google maps but Google has decided for some reason to hide Lenzie Academy!!!! The school is accessed from Myrtle Avenue in Lenzie the school is a 15/20min walk from the train station and there is usually plenty of parking . Session start at 19:00 so please try and be ready to start at that time

Edinburgh Jets 0 - Lenzie 3

It was a depleted Lenzie squad that travelled to Broughton High School for a match Lenzie needed to win to maintain any hope of getting to a promotion playoff spot. Nathan Loustalot took on setting responsibility meaning it was a different Lenzie passing unit.

Set 1 Jets 21 - Lenzie 25

With a victory needed to maintain their Division 1 status it was a committed Jets team that started well in the first set edging into a 5-2 lead due to good serving and a some lacklustre Lenzie service reception. Lenzie’s block timing was poor enabling Jets to XP. Lenzie’s hitters were struggling to get any rhythm making several errors before a flurry of Jets errors eased the pressure and helped Lenzie take the first set.

Set 1 Jets 18 - Lenzie 25

It was a sharper Lenzie in the second set knowing that in the previous match they had lost focus and then a set! More consistent hitting by Lenzie and improved defence meant that despite some strong Jets hitting Lenzie were rarely troubled closing out the set to 18.

Set 1 Jets 20- Lenzie 25

The third set was a closer affair but for once Lenzie’s game management combined with a number of errors by Jets meant that Lenzie were just able to stay ahead until a final service error by Jets meant that Lenzie won the set and the match. Commiserations to Jets as the result sees them relegated.

So 3-0 Lenzie and three points but there were lots of elements that need to be addressed for the next match if Lenzie are to stay in the promotion race.

Next week sees league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex visit Lenzie for the match that was postponed due to bad weather in January . Aberdeen have the opportunity to strengthen their chances to win the league whilst Lenzie can maintain their hunt for a play off spot so lots to play for! Lenzie 1 City of Edinburgh 3

So the dream is over ☹️ After an excellent result in the league last week Lenzie came into this cup match seeking to challenge one of the top teams in Scotland. Any hope that CoE would take this lightly were quickly dashed when it was obvious that a full 14man squad had arrived!

Set 1 Lenzie 13 CoE 25

Indeed it was a less than full strength Lenzie squad that won the toss and quickly discovered that this was going to test their discipline and work rate as CoE eased into a four pints lead at 4-8 before a Lenzie time-out was taken to try and slow CoE momentum. The teams traded points with Lenzie briefly closing the gap to 3 points at 9-12 before a combination of Lenzie errors and solid CoE blocking and hitting saw them ease away to close the set out 12-25

Set 2 Lenzie 25 - CoE 14

So would Lenzie crumble, would heads drop ? CoE made a couple of changes which combined with a run of excellent serves by Lenzie captain Artur Mielewczyk helped Lenzie build a 7-1 lead! Effective side out play even as CoE substituted back to their first set line up saw Lenzie manage the game well to win the set 25-14

Set 3 Lenzie 12 - CoE 25

Set 3 was competitive at the start with teams trading points up to 9-9 but a run of strong CoE serves, some Lenzie errors meant CoE were not challenged and despite some excellent defense CoE finished the set 12-25

Set 4 Lenzie 21 - CoE 25

Lenzie knew they had to raise their game if they wanted to take it to a fifth set and they did ! The fourth set was proper side out volleyball with no more than a couple of points between the sides until at the business end of the set when the greater consistency of CoE finally told and they finished the set 21-25

So no more cup games for Lenzie this season☹️ but hopefully the experience of maintaining focus and of keeping the work rate up against a good team can be used in the remaining league games. A playoff spot is still available but only if the same effort can be maintained over the next 6 games.

Next week 21/02/26 Lenzie are away at Jets 2 before welcoming back Aberdeen Vortex to Lenzie on the 28/02/26

Lenzie 3 - Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex 0

After a disappointing previous weekend and 5 points dropped it was back to Lenzie Academy for a home game against the league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex.

Set 1 Lenzie 25 Aberdeen 23

Having won the toss Lenzie quickly built a 3 point lead that enabled them to keep pressure on an Aberdeen squad that appeared lacking a little of their normal consistency. Solid passing and more disciplined blocking than of late meant Lenzie that Lenzie were able to play side out volleyball to close out the first set.

Set 2 Aberdeen 22 - Lenzie 25

It was another close set with neither side able to get more than a couple of points ahead until a run of three serves and solid blocking saw Lenzie sneak ahead 18-15 again the sides traded points with Lenzie using the full range of their attacking options to ensure Aberdeen were not able to get a run of serves. Errors were creeping into Aberdeen’s game now and for once Lenzie were able to maintain consistency to finish the set 25-22

Set 3 Lenzie 25 - Aberdeen 14

Lenzie went into the third set with the knowledge that if they could maintain their discipline the pressure was on Aberdeen to stay in the match. Again the teams traded points until an excellent run of serves by Patryk Kosmalski saw Lenzie build a 6 point lead at 11-5. Strong serving and solid defence meant on each rotation Lenzie were able to capture a couple of points till they finally finished the set and the match 25-14.

Better combinations and improved communications helped Lenzie demonstrate that on their day they are a potent force . There are still things to work though!

The result means there is still the possibility of Lenzie claiming a playoff place but it does mean the pressure is on during the run in!

Next weekend (14th February) sees Lenzie take on City of Edinburgh at Lenzie Academy FBS 10:00 in the Scottish Cup quarterfinal. Come along and see if Lenzie can raise their game to challenge a top Premier League side

After less than memorable results last weekend Lenzie face league leaders Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex at on Saturday 7th February at Lenzie Academy FBS 12:44 . The first meeting in the league saw Aberdeen run out 3-2 winners. Lenzie will hope to get back to winning ways so come along and see some high quality league 1 men’s volleyball
