What a Wonderful Weekend at the Widley!
Saturday saw the traditional opening of the Green and President Peter Anderson’s wife Pamela did the honours.
A cold day but we got through the afternoon without rain.
A special mention for Davy Mitchell who won the prize for best novelty hat!
Sunday saw the Ladies Opening day and the celebration of 50 years of the Ladies section.
President Rita Gordon’s husband Stewart delivered the first bowl after a celebratory circuit of the Green by a Piper, Rita and all the lady members.
Due to the weather the bowls was quickly completed and a great crowd were able to move into the clubhouse and celebrate in the time honoured way.
A video of the day is currently in production but in the meantime enjoy these photos of both days.
A huge thank you to all the guests who turned up on both days and special thanks for all the wonderful gifts given to the Ladies.

It is with great sadness we have to advise you that Mike Brooks passed away earlier today.
Although he was a member for only a few years what a contribution he made to our club both on and off the green.
Mike loved his bowls and supported as many club events as he could. He also represented the club in K&D and Springburn League competitions.
It was off the green he made his most valuable contributions. He was on the committee until ill health intervened and was always full of innovative ideas. Any job which needed doing….Ask Mike! He could turn his hands to any work needing done. Sheds, electrical work, fox fences nothing phased Mike.
A lovely guy with a great dry sense of humour he will be sorely missed.
Rest easy Mike.

This weekend we have had our last 2 days of finals, which has delivered 6 fantastic finals.
Congratulations to all competitors who reached the final stages of our competitions.
On Saturday we had the gents 2 bowl final, runner up John Whiteford and eventual winner with a 3 sets to 1 win Ray Tennent
Gents senior championship, runner up Mick Mooney and winner Hector Murray.
Ladies Presidents trophy runner up Rita Gordon and winner Laura Staward
All fantastic close games that could have went either way.
On Sunday we had another 3 finals that did not dissapoint.
Gents handicap runner up Rab McLaughlin winner Hector Murray.
A fantastic achievement for Hector as he was in 4 finals and managed to win all 4 in his 1st season at Woodilee.
Ladies Championship, runner up Mary Yates and winner Laura Staward
another game that was so close and could have went either way, with Laura coming out a narrow winner. Laura was also in 4 finals and has won 3 with one still to come, so a fantastic achievement.
We then moved on to Gents championship between William Gregory and Willie Brown, a repeat of our Presidents final and this game was very similar to last week, all the way through the lead changing hands and with Willie Brown taking a 20 18 lead, the bowls continued with Willie Gregory lying 1 and a measure for two and he had last bowl! a great shot on back hand, took Willie Browns bowl and lay 3 for the championship, a great game finishing 21 20 as did first game against these 2 bowlers. Congratulations to William Gregory on his first championship.
A big thanks to everyone who has made these last 2 weekends run smoothly, all the ladies for catering, all the markers and board markers, to our umpire Robert Mclaughlin for 3 days and Annie Stewart for today. Bar staff who kept us all watered, and to everyone who came and supported it means a lot.
