π₯ Bronze for Dunn & MacPherson at the Yonex Canada Open! π¨π¦πΈ
It was a brilliant week for Scotland's players at the Yonex Canada Open in Markham, with several standout performances against world-class opposition, led by a fantastic bronze medal from Alex Dunn and Julie MacPherson.
The mixed doubles pair produced a sensational run to the semi-finals, defeating a series of strong opponents to secure a place on the podium. They came within touching distance of the final before eventually losing out in a dramatic three-set battle to Japan's Saito and Koga, with the deciding game finishing 23β21.
There was more success in the men's doubles, where Matt and Chris Grimley impressed throughout the week. The Scottish twins reached the quarter-finals before suffering heartbreak in another final-set decider, narrowly losing to Japan's Goto and Yoshida after a superb performance.
Ciara Torrance and Julie MacPherson also enjoyed a strong run in the women's doubles, progressing to the last 16 before coming up against eventual champions Suzuki and Yamakita of Japan. The Scottish pair competed well before bowing out 21β11, 21β14 to the title winners.
Alex Dunn was back in action in the men's doubles alongside Adam Pringle, where they faced arguably the toughest opening draw against top-seeded Americans Smith and Chen. The Scots pushed the favourites hard throughout the contest and came agonisingly close to taking the second game, eventually falling 21β16, 22β20 after a spirited display.
A huge thank you to Head Coach Ingo Kindervater for his support and guidance throughout a successful week in Canada.

π«π· A productive yet challenging week for Scotland's Matthew Waring and James Robertson at the FZ FORZA Future Series Nouvelle-Aquitaine in Pessac.
π Matthew Waring continued his impressive transition to the senior circuit, battling through two tough qualifying matches to secure his place in the main draw. He then faced experienced French player Yohan Barbieri, producing another encouraging performance before bowing out 21β18, 21β14.
πͺ James Robertson was handed arguably the toughest opening draw of the tournament, taking on top seed Victor Kauffmann of Denmark. James fought hard throughout but the eventual champion proved too strong, winning 21β15, 21β13 before going on to claim the title.
There were plenty of positives to take from the week, with both players gaining valuable experience against a strong international field.
Next up, after a well-earned break, attention turns to tournaments in Scotland, Ireland and Wales later this year. πΈ

π¨π¦πΈ Tournament time!
Scotland's top badminton players are in Markham, Canada this week for the Yonex Canada Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, with play getting underway today.
There is plenty of Scottish interest on the opening day, with three exciting doubles matches taking place:
π₯ Alex Dunn & Adam Pringle face the toughest of opening tests in the men's doubles as they take on top seeds Presley Smith & Yi Zhi Chen (USA). The world No. 28 pairing will provide a formidable challenge in the first-ever meeting between the two combinations. The Scots will need to be at their very best when they step onto Court 3 for the eighth match of the day.
πΈ Julie MacPherson & Ciara Torrance are next on Court 3, taking on Brazil's Lima sisters. The Brazilian duo have built an impressive 8-5 record together this season, setting up what promises to be an intriguing opening-round encounter.
πͺ Rounding off the day's Scottish action are Matthew & Christopher Grimley, who face Lin & Lin of Chinese Taipei. The young Taiwanese partnership has already climbed to world No. 70 and will provide another stern test for the Scottish brothers.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, Alex Dunn & Julie MacPherson will get their mixed doubles campaign underway.
The team will be supported throughout the week by National Head Coach Ingo Kindervater as they look to make their mark in Canada.
πΊ Watch every match live on the BWF YouTube channel and stay tuned to our website and social channels for a full tournament roundup.
Good luck to all of our Scottish players! π
