Simple chipping drill to improve distance control by trying to land the ball consistently in the same zone.
Then mix up with different lies, clubs or trajectories to get a better feel for shots around the greens.
Practice with purpose rather than always working on technique.

Scooping irons is a common issue which leads to:
β Fat/thin contact
β increased loft
β weak shots
This split stance drill is a great way to promote better weight transfer and shaft lean at impact, leading to:
β
compressed strikes
β
reduced loft
β
stronger flight
Great work here from improving contact and ball flight.

3 lives putting drill.
- Start at 3 feet, move back 1 foot each time you hole a putt, at a different angle and/or hole.
- Miss and you lose a life.
- Game over once youβve lost 3 lives.
- See how far back you can get to.
- Use a training aid for alignment.
This is an excellent drill for:
β
Green reading
β
Start line
β
Speed
β
Alignment
β
Putting under pressure
Here I got to 11 feet before losing all lives, my best attempt so far. Iβll try again on our more sloped putting green and share.
Spend 10-15 minutes doing this instead of taking 3 balls onto a green and hitting the same putts over and over.
Thanks for sharing the drill.
When practicing this drill make sure you do not strike the ground before the tee. This leads to:
β Fat shots
β Or weak scooping contact
Work on swings without the ball first to promote contact with the ground after the tee, then introduce the ball, paying close attention to where the ground contact starts.
Save for your practice sessions if this is an issue you have. Get in contact if you want more specific help on improving your strike.
One of the most common questions I get asked is how to compress the ball. Typically, those who struggle with this have their low point too far back.
This simple drill helps improve strike through improving low point control:
β
Place a tee in like with where the ball would be.
β
Make practice swings, striking the ground after the tee.
β
Introduce the ball and get ball then turf contact.
Start with pitch shots to improve contact then build up speed and distance with irons.
πΎ Save this drill for your next practice session and comment if you find this is something you want to improve.

One of the shot people fear the most around the greens. Coming over a bunker, short sided to the flag and the ball sitting down.
In this case the biggest challenge was the ball sitting down but the ground really firm underneath, even compared to a foot either side.
Adjustments to make:
β
stand closer
β
hands higher (toe down)
β
pick the club up steep and down down across
This makes a massive difference to getting good contact, allowing the ball to pop up quickly and land softly.
