Please welcome Gillian Turner to the Studio Harmony family π€
Gill will be teaching on Mondays from 6.30 to 7.45pm. Contact her personally to book ππ
Here are a few words from Gill:
"Yoga is part of my life and over the past 10 years I have enjoyed sharing my practice through teaching on a weekly basis. I continue my own studies online from the home of Iyengar yoga Institute in India.
I am a level 1 Iyengar Yoga teacher and currently being mentored at level two by Senior Teacher Katie Rutherford.
During Mondayβs class I am hoping to help students understand themself through action in their yoga practice, giving students weekly sequences for a good stretch, improve flexibility and balance, connecting to their breath and help understand their buddhi (intellect)."

Everything has to come to an end. But there is no sadness when that thing ends on a high, with the making of new friends; increased understanding... and Mihir!!! π
Sushama's son Mihir is a welcome bonus, with his physiotherapy and yoga experience (he was attending classes in RIMYI from the age of 6) and willingness to demonstrate "anything" π
The plan was to work on backward extensions, but with a General level Class, different abilities and various injuries and problems, it quickly became a masterclass in dealing with common conditions. Because as every yoga teacher or experienced practitioner knows, everything can be made better by doing yoga! β¨οΈ
So you come no matter what!
We wish Sushama Chitale well on the next leg of her tour in Edinburgh at Edinburgh Iyengar Yoga Centre ππΎ

Day 2 of our weekend learning experience with Sushama Chitale and we were asked not to take instructions at face value π€
As Sushama's teacher, Sunita Parthasarthy said during the IYUK Convention in 2025, we should "find out" how different actions make space in the abdomen or diagram and how others can elongate or still the breath ππΎ
We also learned how we should adapt asanas for ourselves and our students to make allowances for injuries or tightness, so that we don't avoid attempting the asanas that we find challenging π
