⭐️ Women’s 7 Aside League ⭐️

The 7 aside league is back this Wednesday night for another round of games. As always, any new players are welcome and will be assigned to a team on the night. We look forward to seeing you all!

This weekends 11-a-side match in Lerwick is hopefully a sign of what is to come for women’s football in Shetland, with women’s teams playing a club fixture for the first time in nearly 20 years. Well done to all involved!

Delting Women’s football team celebrated an “amazing” milestone on Saturday after playing their first ever 11-a-side match.

The team, which was launched late last year, had previously only held training sessions and played in seven-a-side competitions before the weekend.

Coaches Debbie Young and Sara Farmer said it was a huge moment for the club to finally get out onto the grass and play an 11-a-side game.

⚽️ 2026 Summer of Sport ⚽️

The Shetland Islands Council have partnered with sportscotland to provide a range of free sport activities through the summer holidays. This is part of the national Summer of Sport 2026 initiative which aims to support young people to try new sports and get active.

Our U-14s girls had the pleasure of hosting Shetland Girls & Womens Football Club today in a friendly at a very warm, blustery Dyce Astro.

We started the game making quite a few changes, mixing things up a bit and trying a few new things. Shetland started well and forced Nicola into 2 good saves 🧤 to keep the score level but we soaked up a lot of attacks and came in level at the break.

A change in formation gave us a bit more stability with Neave Falconer slotting into the gap between the defence and midfield on the big pitch. This gave us a good base to build on in the 2nd half,

A corner from Mollie was attacked well by Ava and the ball broke to Ellie M who slotted home. Charlotte then had three attempts from the same corner, all blocked by a solid Shetland defence.

The Shetland number 10 continued to cause problems and was keeping our defenders alert, Nicola collected a ball and quickly set Maisie off on a run as she beat a defender then showed great composure as she very deftly lifted the ball over the keeper, 2-0.

Shortly after, another corner swung in by Mollie broke to Ellie R who poked it home for 3-0. Further shots from Abbi and Ellie R were well dealt with by the Shetland goalie.

Hard work in the heat and on a big pitch for both sets of girls, but nice to see the two teams mixing and eating together after the game - safe travels home tonight, we’ll hopefully see you again soon! 💙🤍💙🤍
