What a fantastic class this was! β¨οΈ
As a practitioner of Iyengar yoga for over 20 years, the decision to teach came easily.
The methods devised by Sri Yogachari BKS Iyengar enable every body to experience the many physical, mental and physiological benefits of this ancient art.

"Physician, heal thyself"! - ancient proverb from Luke 4:23
or... as Guruji said:
"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured" - BKS Iyengar
I decided to stop putting my suffering π on the back-burner and deal with it this morning, by engaging in a proper restorative practice using Anna Ashby's book "Restorative Yoga: Power, Presence and Practice" π
Anna has a background in Iyengar Yoga and credits the system and Guruji for the ingenious use of props ππΎ
Her book gives a sound medical grounding and explanation of the effects of each asana and alternatives and contraindications βοΈ
But the thing that struck me most is how she describes restorative practice as "limb 3 and a half" between Asana (limb 3) and Pranayama (limb 4) of the Ashtanga - 8-limbed system of yoga π§πΎββοΈ Where we develop "gradual refinement of perception" through longer stays in the asanas π reaping the physical and psychological benefits whilst attending to the body-mind-spirit connection π
Yoga is not a quick fix, it's a process for which one needs focus and patience as well as discipline to reach one's destination πΉ

**CLASS ANNOUNCEMENT**
I am officially on holiday!!! π₯³
But that doesn't mean I won't be on my mat. In fact, I'll have more time for my own practice - which I'll be sharing with you occasionally π
I'd like to encourage you to roll out your mat and channel your inner teacher in my absence, using the sequences below, generously published by and
My advice...
- Start with the simplest of stretches: supine poses are always the most appealing!
- And don't think you have to devote hours: 5-10mins is a good place to start
- Then see where things take you: move to kneeling ( ) to to and some shoulder openers
- Once you get a taste for it add more poses. But never pressure yourself...
- Have fun!
I will be! π

When time and/or finances are tight, it's easy to sacrifice that walk in the park at lunchtime and the takeaway coffee on the park bench; or decide that a massage or yoga class is a luxury we simply can't afford πΆπΏββοΈππ½ββοΈπ§ββοΈ
But it's just when we are pushed to our limits, that taking the time and investing in ourselves is most important π₯°
Today I was in my happy place, taking the time to note the wide variety of wildflowers that I saw on my way to Thamma Thai Wellness where Nan worked her magic β¨οΈ- ironing out the inevitable aches and tensions that accumulate when you teach yoga!
