BETWITTERED. 🖤
I learned a new word on BBC Breakfast this morning, and I think it might be my new favourite.
Betwittered: that feeling of being both nervous and excited about something.
And immediately I thought of our dancers.
All the children heading back to school this week — betwittered.
Our dancers coming back through the KDance doors today — betwittered.
Those walking into our studio for the very first time — definitely betwittered.
And, actually, your teachers? We’re a little betwittered too. 🥰
As a dance teacher, I particularly love this word because I’ve seen children struggle to understand this feeling so many times.
They really want to go on that stage.
They really want to compete.
They really want to try the new thing.
But their tummy is flipping, their heart is racing and suddenly they wonder, “Why am I scared if I want to do it?”
Maybe sometimes it isn’t simply fear.
Maybe we’re betwittered.
Nervous because it matters. Excited because we want it. And brave enough to do it anyway.
What a lovely little word to give our children — and ourselves — for a very big feeling.
So, KDance dancers, if you're feeling a little betwittered as we start our new term today, you're in very good company. Your Principal is too. 🖤
What are you feeling betwittered about right now?

At KDance, we don’t just teach dancers.
We create opportunities for them to become leaders, mentors and future teachers too.
Applications are now opening for the next intake of our Future Dance Teachers Level 1 programme — giving students aged 11+ accredited training, hands-on classroom experience and direct mentoring from Principal Kim Donn, with 30 years of teaching experience.
And our favourite bit?
99.9% of students from last year’s Level 1 cohort has chosen to continue to Level 2.
That tells us everything.
Current KDance families can find full details in our family group, or email us to find out more.
Tell me - is this an opportunity you would like to know more about?

🖤 DANCE PHOTO COMPETITION WINNERS! 🖤
It was SO lovely seeing your faces popping up over the summer — and we absolutely loved seeing where dance came with you on your holidays!
The whole KDance team had such a great time looking through all your photos at our team training day today. We were supposed to choose three winners… but there were simply too many brilliant entries, so three became FOUR! 😂
And because we genuinely couldn't decide, we brought in an independent judge — Kim Rogers from The Butterfly Mind!
Our Principal, Kim, was particularly impressed by just how imaginative you all were. From locations and poses to props and backgrounds, you really got creative with this one!
So, our FOUR winners are…
🏆 Isla F – We loved your creative use of a prop and the beautiful articulation through your body. Such a strong and expressive image!
🏆 Kacey C – You look like a mermaid! We loved the gorgeous beach setting and the whole feel of this photo.
🏆 Chloe R – We loved your use of body shapes, almost merging into the backdrop of the palm trees. Such a clever and striking image!
🏆 Faith W – We couldn't leave this one out! Another wonderfully creative photo that earned its place in our winning four.
Congratulations! You each win a personalised KDance Stanley Cup, which will be with you within the next three weeks. 🖤
And a HUGE thank you to every dancer who joined in. We loved seeing every single entry — and we hope you've all had a fantastic summer.
🖤 Huge congratulations to Isla, Kacey, Chloe & Faith! 🖤

A full day. A lot of conversation. And a LOT of ideas. 🖤
Today the KDance team spent the day working with Kim Rogers from The Butterfly Mind, taking a really close look at the culture we create within our studios.
Not just what we teach, but how we teach it and why.
How we give corrections.
How we build confidence.
How we encourage creativity.
How we create community.
And how we continue to expect excellence while making sure our students feel supported enough to work towards it.
As Principal, one of my responsibilities is making sure that we never become a school that simply says, “Well, this is how we've always done it.”
Good teaching requires reflection. It requires us to keep learning, questioning, sharing ideas and sometimes challenging ourselves to do things differently.
And today my team did exactly that.
There were some brilliant conversations and ideas around the table, and I came away incredibly proud of the people in this photograph and excited about what we can put into practice.
Excellence through Confidence, Creativity and Community.
Those aren't just words for the wall. Our job now is to make sure our students experience them. 🖤

I wonder if it's time for a wee introduction....
I'm Kim, Founder and Principal of KDance.
Although KDance didn't actually start with a business plan. It started when I was 14 and discovered contemporary dance.
I'd grown up Highland dancing and loved so much about it, but contemporary was different. I loved the freedom, the creativity and the self-expression. I felt like I'd found my thing.
At the time there was a dance artist called Sandy working across what was then Banff and Buchan, bringing dance to young people throughout the area.
I remember thinking, "that's what I want to do."
Not just dance. I wanted to bring that feeling to young people here.
I grabbed every opportunity I could to learn, including travelling to Dundee and France, before eventually gaining my BA Honours degree in Dance and Creative Arts.
After university, life eventually brought me back to Fraserburgh and my Nanny kept encouraging me to start a dance class.
I genuinely didn't think anyone would come.
But eventually I took the chance and started one Saturday morning street dance class.
They came.
So I added another. Then another.
Eventually I introduced the thing I'd wanted to teach all along — contemporary dance.
They came to that too.
And somewhere along the way, KDance was born.
It's grown into something 14-year-old me could never have imagined, but the reason behind it hasn't really changed.
I want young people growing up here to have access to excellent dance education and opportunities. I want them to experience the confidence, creativity, freedom and belonging that dance gave me.
And I don't believe where we live should limit what's possible for them.
That's what started KDance.
And all these years later, it's still what drives me.

And just like that… our final session with Molly Mae is complete — and I can honestly say, we are in love!
Molly brought an incredible wealth of knowledge, industry experience and energy to KDance. Every workshop offered something completely different, challenging our dancers in ways they didn’t expect and pushing them beyond what they thought they could do.
Watching the improvement within each session was genuinely incredible. As a teacher, there is nothing better than seeing those little lightbulb moments happen, and I am I incredibly proud that KDance has been able to bring this to young dancers here in Aberdeenshire.
7 workshops.
3 new dances created for some of our Elite dancers.
Countless tips, tricks and industry insights shared with our students and team.
What a week!
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, to Summer for all her support throughout the week, and of course to Molly for travelling all this way and giving so much to our dancers.
And a final big shout-out to our award winners Lilia, Annie, Millie and Korla — every one of you thoroughly deserving.
Here are the final photos from a very special few days at KDance.
We’re already wondering… when can we have Molly back?
