We’re all so sorry to hear that Moray Art Centre will be leaving its long-standing home at the Field of Dreams in Findhorn at the end of August.

MAC has been an important part of the creative community here for many years — a space for artists, learning, exchange and connection; a valued neighbour within The Park Ecovillage; and even a venue for RISE performances.

From all of us at Dance North Scotland, we’d like to send our very best wishes to the staff, trustees, volunteers, artists and wider MAC community as they take this time to pause, recharge and consider what comes next.

💫 DANCE IMPROVISATION JAM
Sunday 13 September | 2–4pm

Come and move, play and connect at a contact improvisation Dance JAM with Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain.

Kirstie and Charlie will guide you through a warm-up before inviting you into movement with music. From there, explore the space through freedom, play, presence and awareness, responding to yourself, others and the moment.

This is not a taught class, but an open space for individual and collective expression, creativity and connection.

🌿 The JAM is part of a wider four-day residency, 10–13 September, supported by Dance North and Creative Scotland, bringing together dance, film, improvisation and shared practice.

✨ Who is it for?
Open to anyone aged 18+. The session is particularly suited to experienced movers, but no previous dance experience is required.

🌿 GENTLE DANCING PRACTICES
Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 September

Join Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain for a weekend of gentle dancing practices exploring movement as a pathway towards well-being, resilience and healing in challenging times.

Open to all dancers and movers, with or without previous experience, these sessions offer space to slow down, listen, explore and connect through movement.

✨ DYING DUETS / SHIMMERING
Sunday 13 September | 7–9pm | Universal Hall

Join Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain at Universal Hall for Dying Duets / Shimmering — a deeply reflective and moving performance exploring fragility, vulnerability, connection and the transformative possibilities of change.

Drawing on the radical softness of the heart-space, Kirstie and Charlie explore the carrying of death through life, and the momentary deaths that can reveal Life in its most essential essence.

Through movement as witnessing, Dying Duets creates a space for story, reflection and connection — an affirmation of the poignancy of human connectedness and the resilience that can emerge through facing life’s universal and personal challenges.

🎥 SCREENDANCE IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP
Friday 11 September | 10am–1pm | Findhorn

Join filmmaker and screendance artist Katrina McPherson, with Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain, for a three-hour workshop exploring the creative possibilities of screendance improvisation.

Drawing on the perspectives of the ‘empowered performer – embodied camera – empathetic viewer’, the workshop will offer practical starting points and tools for developing screendance practice rooted in care, ritual and resistance.

Whether you’re new to screendance or have experience working across dance, performance and film, this workshop is an opportunity to experiment, play and explore ways of seeing and moving through the camera.

🎥 MOVING THROUGH THE FRAME
Thursday 10 September | 7–8.30pm | Findhorn

Join us for an evening sharing of film work in progress, directed by Katrina McPherson and featuring Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain.

This sharing offers a first glimpse of new material being developed for a screendance and documentary project, exploring movement-based film as a way of telling personal stories and expressing emotion.

The work includes footage from recent filming on Easdale Island, scenes from Kirstie and Charlie’s duet work, and interviews with the artists.

🌿 Moving Through the Frame is part of a wider four-day residency taking place 10–13 September, supported by Dance North and Creative Scotland. The residency brings these artists together to explore new possibilities across dance, film and storytelling.

Katrina McPherson and Kirstie Simson have been creative collaborators for more than 20 years, following Katrina’s documentary Force of Nature, which explored Kirstie’s work. This new project continues that relationship in new and timely directions.

We are delighted to welcome back Kirstie Simson and Charlie Brittain for a residency in Findhorn this September, continuing their inspiring work exploring dance, creativity and health.

The residency includes a rich programme of participatory workshops, discussions and performances - delivered alongside acclaimed filmmaker Katrina McPherson - open to professional dancers and experienced movers.

About the artists:

🌟 Kirstie Simson – internationally renowned dance improviser, performer and teacher, known for her pioneering work in presence, intuition and spontaneous movement.

🌟 Charlie Brittain – international contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher and rehearsal director, with extensive experience across leading dance organisations and independent practice.

🎥 Katrina McPherson – award-winning Scottish screendance artist, filmmaker and educator, exploring the powerful relationship between dance, film, body and landscape.

Join artist Sharon Took-Zozaya for a sharing of Everything That's Still is Preparing to Move, a uniquely vibrant mix of dance, physical theatre and video inspired by Hopeman rock formations with professional and community performers.

An intergenerational cast of professional and community participants will perform with original sound design by Quee MacArthur and video by Lorenz Gramann.

The sharing offers an opportunity to experience work in progress and engage with the creative process behind this new piece.
