Ferndale Athletic u19’s 2 - 3 Penrhos FC Youth

Possibly the toughest write up I’ve had to do, and hopefully the hardest I will have to do! From a neutral perspective game of the year! From a Ferndale perspective an absolute nightmare!

Very much a game of two halves! Penrhos started really well and looked like a good unit, and played some real nice football, leaving us looking weak and unfit at times! We had chances in the first half but overall Penrhos were dominant! They took the lead and deserved it! The only difficult thing to take with the first half was a goal that never crossed the line given to the away team, then the third being given with a very massive shout for offside going into the break 3-0 down was very harsh on us, Penrhos deserved the lead but 3-0 didn’t tell the full story!

Half time team talk was a big one for us coaching staff and one we needed to get right, and following this we woke up and looked bang at it!

Second half we were out of the gates and looked much better, we took control of the game and had a bucket load of chances! We got the scoreline back to 3-1 through a very neat bit of football. A wonderful through ball put on a plate for our mr ruthless Blake! Skipper Cam jones involved in the goals again with the assist. Our fabulous winger Rauls tore the defence to shreds and led to us winning a penalty after his pace got him in the position to win a ball he had no right in winning! Our skipper then stepped up and slotted home to bring us back to 2-3. We went on to have many chances and somehow we never ended up pulling level! Their goalkeeper temporarily took the form of Buffon saving absolutely everything that came his way! Was an unreal goalkeeping display from him and truly did win the game for his team!

Definitely many positives to take from this one and the wins and goals will follow I’m sure of it! Massive well done to Penrhos FC it was a pleasure hosting you and your lads, very respectful bunch and deserve the best boys! Thank you for the game we look forward to the reverse fixture! Hopefully more of the same, without having Buffon in goals!

Ferndale athletic u19’s 6 - 1 Rhydyfelin AFC Youth

Well I knew it wouldn’t be too long until we got our first 3 points of the season, but didn’t quite expect the levels we showed today to obtain them!

We took the lead early after playing some solid football and really controlling the game. The problem that often comes with taking an early lead is we took our foot off the gas and let Rhydyfelin into the game, really put us under some pressure for some time, then a poor mistake from the otherwise perfect man in nets led to them pulling level.

Following this lapse of concentration we scored almost instantly to regain the lead and from there we remained solid in shape and took our chances well! If I’m being critical we could’ve scored more today and weren’t ruthless enough. Rhydyfelin showed spirit and heart and kept going despite us scoring freely for the rest of the first half so credit to them for plugging away!

Second half seemed to fly by, very solid shape made us difficult to beat and we breezed through not having many questions to answer, 2 missed pens one after the other would’ve strengthened our goal difference but fair play to the keeper pulled off two really solid saves from the spot!

We are here to compete and I couldn’t be more proud of the boys today, communication was spot on and the desire to win was there! Something we’ve been trying to drill into them for some time! Massive shout out to our skipper who had man of the match today, was a true stand out performance and bagging himself a goal in the process!

Rhydyfelin were unlucky but have a real unit there that will go on to cause teams issues this year, well done to your boys for fighting for everything and was a pleasure to host you boys!
