Todays second dive was on Penwin (Manacles) an underwater wall well known for its covering of jewel anemones of all colours. Today was no exception, the anemones were out in all their glory making the walls look like a rainbow, with white deadmans fingers and pink sea fans. There were lots of starfish, sea urchins, wrasse and some nice sized pollack. The second of two great dives 😁

Todays first dive took us all the way to Lizard Point to dive the Carmarthen, a 116m long, 4262 grt wreck sunk in 1917 with no loss of life. She was heavily salvaged but a lot still remains to provide a haven for marine life, in particular the three boilers. Two of the boilers are stood vertical and they all have parts of the side missing which provides a rare glimpse of what is inside. Divers saw cuttlefish, conger and octopus along with all the usual array of wrasse, bib and crustations.

Finally an opportunity presented itself last night to dive a site we've been wanting to check out for ages. Well worth the wait and will definitely be added to Reef Runners itinerary. Located on the outer Bizzies, this site has has steep walls covered in Jewel anemones, dead mans fingers, pink sea fans and starfish of many varieties. The nooks and crannies are filled with crawfish, blennies and crabs, whilst the top is currently covered in kelp, it also harbours lots of juvenile fish, spider crabs, wrasse and all the usual contenders. We saw a curled octopus and the second wave of divers saw an angler fish, not me unfortunately, 25yrs+ of diving and I still haven't seem one 😢

We had a request early in the week for a dive on the Hera and as always she put on a good show for the divers. Masses of marine life, enormous sea hares, large wrasse and pollack, everything seems much larger than usual at the moment.
The second dive we were going to do the Whelps, but decided to give the western side of Gull Rock a try for a change of scenery. Some divers picked up an underwater ridge that heads west to the mainland and found it quite barren, those who stayed following the rock saw octopus, congers and again loads of fish hiding in the kelp and rocks.

After our first dive on the Bizzes we headed over to the Manacles for slack water. We dropped the divers in near Penwin and they followed the wall around the site finishing on Vase Rock. Lots of life as usual and the amazing jewel anemones covering the wall in a multitude of colours is just mesmerising. Lots of starfish, crawfish and hundreds of juvenile fish. They saw some large pollack swimming around the rock too.

Today was amazing from the get go. Flat calm seas, sunshine and as we approached the dive site we saw a large groups of different sea birds diving into the water. This built into a frenzy and before long we saw dolphins, porpoises and tuna breaching around what must have been a large bait ball, it was an incredible sight.
With that bit of excitement over we dropped the divers onto the Baps, a site on the Bizzies reef with two pinnacles. The divers dropped down into around 8m viz and had a great dive, seeing some massive catsharks and nurse hounds.
