Something happens when a child takes the helm.

They make their own decisions. They solve problems, take responsibility and discover that they can do difficult things—even when the wind changes or it all goes slightly wrong.

They learn to work as a team, but also to trust themselves. Girls and boys share the same water, race from the same start line and compete as equals.
Skill, courage and determination are what matter.

The club is buzzing with new juniors learning to sail over the summer holidays. Seeing them arrive a little unsure and come off the water standing a little taller is one of the best parts of summer at Exe Sailing Club.

It is so much more than learning to sail ⛵

Did you spot all the fun on Exmouth Beach yesterday? 🌊

The first-ever Salt Fest was a huge success — congratulations to Sideshore Community for putting on such a brilliant day.

And a special shout-out to Topper the Tide for a fantastic result in the raft race. Proof that we really do know how to move on the water… even when the boat is homemade! ⛵️

Some of our Exe Squad juniors have made their way to Travemünde, Germany 🇩🇪 to compete in the 2026 RS Tera World Championships!

They’ve promised to keep us updated, but for now we’re sending them loads of luck as the racing gets under way. We hope they have an incredible week, both on and off the water.

And judging by the opening ceremony, they’re already having plenty of fun! ⛵️

Sunsets, Reflections and just a little wind. Magical conditions for the junior helm evening.

Part 2 of our Q&A with Ben!

07/07/2026

We got in touch with Exe Sailing Club’s very own while he was out in Sardinia training for the America’s Cup.

Ben kindly took the time to answer some questions for our junior sailors, sharing his memories of learning to sail at Exe, the good bits, the tough bits, why junior sailing matters, and what life looks like now in the world of the America’s Cup.

A brilliant reminder of where sailing can take you — and that it can all start right here at Exe.

Part 1 below. Part 2 incoming…
