It is with great sadness this morning to have heard the news of the passing of Alan Banks. The Supporters Club send our sincere condolences to Mary and all his family and friends.

'Banksie' became The Honorary President of our Supporters Club's in the 1990s regularly attended our meetings and getting involved where and when he could. Nowadays, in the footballing world, 'legend' seems to get thrown around like confetti. Alan was a true legend in every sence. A Gentleman, ambassador and sportsman on and off the field for Exeter City in everyway.

Alan Banks began his career at Liverpool as an amateur in August 1956 signing professionally in May 1958 and making his debut as a nineteen-year-old against Brighton and Hove Albion in September that year scoring in that same game. Cambridge City signed him in 1961 where he scored 129 goals in just over two seasons.

Exeter City paid out a club record fee at the time to obtain his transfer from Cambridge City in November of 1963. He went on to score 109 goals in 285 games for Exeter over two spells.

Alan was the leading goalscorer for Exeter on four occasions. He was City's player of the Year in 1968-69 and his 1970-71 season proved to be the best one in terms of goals for City as he scored 21 times in the league. He broke the individual scoring record for City in February 1971 when he scored his 90th Grecians' goal for which he was presented, on behalf of the club, with a silver salver by the Mayor of Exeter.

In 2007 Alan was voted Exeter City's favourite player of all time. Alan will be sadly missed by all. A true legend.

RIP 'Banksie' From us all at Exeter City Supporters Club, Committee & Membership. Thank you. x.
