Oss! 🥋 What an incredible way to wrap up our 30th Anniversary weekend!

The 🌞sun was shining, the energy on the mats was unmatched, and the instruction was absolutely world-class.

Massive thank you to everyone who stepped up, trained hard, and made this Seishin Mizu Ryu Jiu Jitsu gasshuku one for the history books.

Here’s to 30 years of technique, tradition, and community and to many more. 🌊✨

Today we’re saying goodbye to Fred as he finishes his gap year with us at Exeter Martial Arts and heads off to university in Manchester. 🎉🎓

Over the past year, Fred has been an incredible member of our team, bringing enthusiasm, kindness, and a positive attitude to everything he’s done. As well as helping keep the club running smoothly, he’s been a fantastic instructor in our children’s classes, building great relationships with our younger students and helping them grow in confidence and skill.

Fred has made a real difference to our club, and we’re so grateful for all of his hard work, dedication, and the example he’s set both on and off the mats.

Everyone at Exeter Martial Arts wishes you the very best as you start this exciting new chapter at university in Manchester. We know you’ll achieve great things, and we hope you’ll come back to train and teach whenever you can.

Thank you for everything, Fred, you’ll always be part of the Exeter Martial Arts family. Good luck! 👊💙

Progress isn’t built in the big moments… it’s built in the reps. 👊

This week the team were sharpening transitions from Side Control to Mount, working multiple variations, improving control, pressure, movement, and learning how to flow between dominant positions.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the smallest adjustments can make the biggest difference :

drill it, refine it, own it. 🔥

Consistency on the mats = confidence under pressure.

Traditional roots. Modern application.

Black belts sharpening their stand-up game by blending traditional Jiu Jitsu principles with the pace and movement of sport Jiu Jitsu. Every throw, every takedown, every scramble is an opportunity to improve timing, balance, and control.

Train the fundamentals. Test them under pressure. Keep evolving. 🥋💥

Due to the forecast for Thursday, June 25, with temperatures expected to remain in the 30s, and with the dojo inside typically being a few degrees warmer on top, we have made the decision to remain closed tomorrow.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and instructors is our priority. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming everyone back once conditions improve.

Please stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care.

☀️ HEATWAVE UPDATE – DOJO OPEN AS NORMAL THIS EVENING ☀️

Hi everyone,
With the current heatwave affecting Exeter, we just wanted to give everyone a quick update regarding classes this week.

At the moment, the dojo will remain open and classes will run as normal this evening. We will monitor how things go during training and assess conditions carefully over the coming days.
Depending on how temperatures develop later in the week, we may need to make adjustments to classes or potentially close the dojo temporarily if conditions become too extreme.
As always, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our number one priority, and we want to make sure everybody can train safely and comfortably.

If you are attending classes, please make sure you:
💧 Bring plenty of water
👕 Wear light training kit where appropriate
😓 Take breaks if needed
🧒 Parents, please ensure children are well hydrated before class

We will keep everyone updated should any changes be needed later in the week.

Stay cool everyone , and we’ll see you on the mats tonight! 🥋🔥

Sharp work from Jag and Charlotte this week, drilling a hook kick combo in kickboxing. 🥊🔥

This combination challenges flexibility, coordination, balance, and timing.

All key skills for effective kicking technique. Great focus, speed, and ex*****on from both athletes!

🔥 Another Outstanding Seminar in the Books 🔥

This weekend we had an incredible Traditional Jiu Jitsu Seminar with Catterick Sensei packed with practical and dynamic training from start to finish. 👊

Black belts and instructors from our clubs Leicester Jiu Jitsu Club (SMRTJ) , Bristol Jitsu tol, Southampton Jiu Jitsuton and Exeter Martial Arts worked through a wide range of core combative skills including:

🥋 Joint locking & control techniques
💥 Throws and takedowns
🤼 Ground fighting and positional control
⚔️ Weapon defence applications
👥 Multiple attacker & 2-person attack scenarios

A fantastic opportunity to sharpen technical skills, pressure test movement, and explore the versatility that makes Traditional Jiu Jitsu such a complete martial art.

Huge respect to everyone who trained hard, pushed themselves, and brought great energy throughout the day and thanks to Jordan , for some great photos of the training.

The standard keeps rising every seminar. 👏

Train hard. Stay sharp. Keep evolving.
