🏆 SEPTEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH 🏆

We’re incredibly proud to announce Rhys Smith as September’s Member of the Month.

Since April (left-hand pictures), we’ve watched him COMPLETELY transform physically.

Bu what makes us most proud is the person behind that progress.

With fatherhood approaching, Rhys made the decision to become stronger, healthier, and happier - not only for himself, but for his child and partner Kelly.

- - -

Here’s his story. 👇

“I first started training at 14. For around ten years I trained without much guidance and, alongside a manual job, suffered three back injuries.

After Covid, I jumped straight back into heavy training and injured myself for a fourth time deadlifting with poor form. I’d also suffered a compression injury to my C5 and C6 vertebrae.

After that, I lost my way. I wanted to train, but there was always a fear that I’d hurt myself again.

I rejoined Utopia in October 2025, but I didn’t really have any focus or direction.

Then everything changed at once. I started a new job and found out Kelly and I were having a baby. I felt completely overwhelmed - like life was happening to me and I was falling apart underneath it.

The gym became the one thing I felt I could control.

So after a session, I approached Ella earlier this year and told her I needed help.

Since then, I’ve sorted my diet, become consistent with training, and finally have a routine and purpose. I’m learning how to train properly - no longer constantly afraid of hurting myself.

But the biggest change has happened outside the gym.

I feel happier, healthier. and like I’ve got control and direction back in my life..”

HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY TO OUR SAM 🎉 🎈 🎂

It’s difficult to explain what Sam means to Utopia, because his contribution is quite literally everywhere.

For the past couple of years, Sam has lifted, carried, built, fixed, moved, painted, grafted, and somehow been roped into just about every ridiculous idea we’ve had.

- - -

Most importantly, he’s stood beside us through it all: the growth, the chaos, the setbacks, the long days, the big ideas, and the moments when we’ve just had to find a way - Sam has always been there.

And so Utopia simply would not exist as it does today without him.

- - -

Aside from his mutant strength and DIY skills, Sam is also at the core of Utopia’s heart because of the person he is.

Loyal. Kind. Humble. Dependable. Unquestionably good.

He embodies so much of what Utopia was built to represent: strength without ego, loyalty without expectation, kindness without performance, and the willingness to show up for other people.

At 21, he is already a man, a mountain, an absolute unit, and (underneath all of that) one of the genuinely best souls you could hope to know.

Utopia will forever contain pieces of Sam in its walls, floors, equipment, and story of the gym.

But most importantly, there is a part of him embedded into our culture.

So on the first day of the 21st year of his life, we wanted to celebrate the fact that Utopia is better because Sam is part of it.

Loved beyond words. Valued beyond measure. Respected by all of us.

WHAT IF THE REASON YOU THINK THE GYM ISN’T FOR YOU… ISN’T ACTUALLY TRUE? 🫪

Maybe you think you need to lose weight or get fitter first.
Perhaps you assume it’s a place only for “gym bros” (or wannabes).
Or simply, you could be worried you will feel out of place and intimated when you first walk in.

🏅 THE INAUGURAL GRINDER’S GRIND OFF 🏅

Yesterday, we hosted our first ever beginner’s strongman competition at Utopia - raising awareness and support for the charities Mind and PAPYRUS.

And what an extraordinary day it was.

A big thank you to Adam Evans and Jason for hosting the event, .kitchen7 for providing incredible catering, CotswoldK9 for her amazing protein brownie bakes, Nick Inwood for being the official event photographer, Mike and GaryPT@_UtopiaGym for loading the weights between lifts, Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind for sending reps down to support the event, and of course Becky Bessell for doing all the the administrative work to make the day possible. 💙

The total amount raised for our chosen charities will be revealed once we’ve counted all the donations that have filtered in this weekend 🙌

We would like to congratulate every single participant - they all did themselves so proud yesterday 💪

Each of them stepped forward, challenged themselves and were vulnerable enough to try something they’ve never done before.

And around them, we had an entire community of members and non-members cheering them on, celebrating every lift, and turning individual effort into collective strength.

For an event centred around mental health, we could not have asked for a more powerful reminder of what community can mean. Strength isn’t only what you can lift - sometimes it’s having the courage to step forward and knowing there will be people behind you when you do. 🤝

To every entrant, supporter, volunteer, and person who made the Grind Off possible: thank you. 🙏

Yesterday we saw Utopia.
And it was phenomenal. 🥹
