This is one of the most special and memorable events in the Ely Dojo calendar: a chance for our junior members and their families to come together and celebrate the progress, effort, courage, commitment, and achievements of every junior member in our club.

At Ely Dojo, every judo journey is different, and every judo journey is celebrated.

Each junior member will be called forward to receive their award in front of their teammates, coaches, family, and friends. We will also present 24 additional awards across the three age groups, including most improved judoka and judoka of the year.

We have an awesome selection of raffle prizes from local businesses keen to support our event and our annual award celebration. Please come along with your family to celebrate your juniors’ efforts and achievements, and help make this a truly special day for all our junior members.

We always talk about building champions for life, and today we are sharing a real-life example…

Theo joined our dojo when he was just five years old. His first time on the mat was a little daunting, but he was determined to give it a go and five years later, the rest is history. Theo attends two classes each week and has competed in several tournaments, bringing home bronze, silver and gold medals! We are also proud to have his presence at many of our outreach events; some of you will have seen him represent our dojo at our stalls…and on the mats.

On Friday evening, Theo was awarded the Child of Achievement medal at the Ely Hero Awards, and we couldn’t be prouder of him. Sport of any kind has always brought great focus to Theo’s life through a number of challenges, and (in his words) judo has helped him gain confidence, friendship, and the desire to achieve great things with his life.

Theo’s positive story is just one of many in our dojo, with every member growing and learning at each stage of their judo journey. We really are building champions for life.

Do you know where to find us in Ely? Hopefully! But if not, here is a little pointer in the right direction.

Ely Dojo is a purpose-built martial arts dojo based at FRESH. Hybrid Wellness Studio on Broad Street. This means we are central and easily accessible for as much of the local community – and beyond – as possible! There is a huge car park right outside, and a popular vegan café, prosper_ely, is just downstairs and run by a fantastic team.

Our adult judo classes welcome everyone: complete beginners, returning judoka, fitness seekers, cross-training athletes, and experienced practitioners. There are no prerequisites and no minimum fitness level, just the willingness to step onto the mat and give it a go.

Judo is a full-body challenge that develops strength, mobility, fitness, and body awareness, but the benefits go far beyond exercise. You will learn new skills, push yourself at your own pace, and become part of a supportive community where people genuinely look out for one another. Whether you are looking for a new way to get fit, a practical martial art, or simply a great group of people to train with, there is a place for you at Ely Dojo.

Is your child ready for a real challenge? Yuko Youth is where judo gets serious…and seriously exciting.

These classes (which come after the Koka Kids classes) are designed for ages 9–13 and help young judoka take their skills to the next level. They learn the art of attack and defence in both standing work and groundwork, building real technique and confidence with every session.

Young people learn to think, stay composed under pressure, work hard to improve, and, most importantly, support their teammates along the way. For those with competition ambitions, Yuko Youth is also the first step on Ely Dojo’s competition pathway.

If your child is ready to challenge themselves, Yuko Youth is where they belong because the training is dynamic, challenging, and enormously rewarding.

There was a sound that filled our dojo during summer camp. And it wasn’t the thud of the mats.

It was laughter. Pure, unfiltered, can’t-help-themselves laughter. The kind that only comes when children are truly having fun.

That is the sound of a good summer camp.
