Northstowe Utd W 6–2 Isleham Utd W

Today we took our first steps into league football as a team, and we knew we faced a tough assignment against a good, experienced Northstowe side.

We started the match positively and held our own during the opening stages, continuing to try and play our football. However, in the blink of an eye, we found ourselves 2–0 down.

Rather than letting that knock us, it seemed to drive us on. We began to see more of the ball and create opportunities of our own. Trina then drove into the box and was brought down, earning us a penalty. Lauren stepped up and confidently dispatched it high into the net to get us back into the game. 🙌🏻

Just before half-time, Northstowe restored their two-goal advantage, meaning we went into the break 3–1 down.

Northstowe came out quickly in the second half and scored two quick-fire goals to extend their lead to 5–1. Despite the scoreline, our girls continued to fight and defend with everything they had.

Jess made some fantastic saves throughout the second half, but she was eventually unable to prevent Northstowe from adding a sixth.

We never stopped fighting, though, and right until the final whistle we continued to look for another goal. Some excellent link-up play between Kristen and Lauren created an opening for Trina, who made no mistake with the finish to grab our second goal of the game. ⚽👏🏻

The game eventually ended in a 6–2 defeat, but once again we gained valuable experience and, importantly, more game time together as a team.

Tomorrow marks our first league game back as a women’s team. We will be playing our reversed fixture away at Northstowe Utd, with the game taking place at Willingham Recreation ground.
11:00am kick off.
