In June 2026 our Development Group submitted a bid to Sportscotland and Scottish Curling to fund a part-time Coaching Coordinator for three years.

We are delighted to let you know that our bid has been successful.

The person we are looking for will help develop a stronger increased coaching workforce allowing us to produce a positive, engaging, consistent coaching experience.

We asked some members of our New Stones beginner club (past and present) about their curling journey so far. Next up, Mhorag Heger.
“Well I really have had a roller coaster of a curling journey. It started way back with a wee poster advertising a Try Curling session at Border Ice Rink in Kelso. It grabbed my attention and I thought ‘why not?!’
Oh boy did I enjoy it and thought that I would then make this my sport! However between family commitments and work it was not my time.
Fast forward a number of years and after moving to Edinburgh my priority was visiting Curl Edinburgh and getting into the sport. Curling was not as easy as I thought! After many New Stones coaching sessions I plucked up the courage to join a club, probably too soon but I do like a challenge! I can only apologise for those early over-exuberant shots! I moved quickly from my original club to then start with 3 other clubs... Yes I was very keen! What else should one do on those dark winter evenings?
Being very determined, flexible with your schedule, and eager to play is the way to progress. I subbed for anyone who asked which increased the amount of time I spent on the ice. Through
New Stones I also played recruitment bonspiels with various other clubs to get a feel for them. I progressed quite quickly but always kept my eyes on enjoying the game.
Now 6 years down the line I play any position asked and have the privilege of being Vice President for my mother club. Having played at several rinks in Scotland and an event in Europe, my
ambition is to one day play in Canada!
There are great opportunities out there and I definitely feel that I have found ‘my sport’ and just love the ‘roaring’ game. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try!”
