Another year of Club Champions being added to the history of The Society.
While we continue to evolve and embrace a modern edge, we’re equally proud of our rich history and heritage. Some traditions stand the test of time—and for good reason.

Did you know we hosted our first big professional event at Barnton in 1956 for the Penfold Swallow PGA Championship.
This was won by Eric Lester. This name might not be familiar with many of you, however there may be some of the other competitors in this event who are. For example, this was the first professional event that a 20 year old GARY PLAYER played in the UK. Full of Ryder Cup players too: Dai Rees, Fred Daly, Harry Weetman & Eric Brown; alongside 4 time Open winner Bobby Locke, Christy O’Conner and 1951 Open Champion Max Faulkner (at Royal Portrush).
Some 11,000 spectators attended the event. This was also the first professional tournament in the UK to have a winners cheque of £1,000 #1735
