20 seconds of fun… backed by purposeful training ⚽🧤

Over the last month, this 10 year old Rangers Academy goalkeeper has been building the foundations that matter most. We’ve focused on landing mechanics, double leg and single leg jumping, and change of direction to improve movement quality, confidence, and athleticism.

The difference already is clear. He’s moving with more control, more intent, and much sharper overall. Looking forward to building on that by introducing more upper body work in the next training block 📈

Great effort every session. The future is bright! 👏

Based out of in Paisley, I work with all ages, message to find out more 🤙🏻

386 mile round trip. 8 hours in the car. 🚗⚽

Long journeys can leave footballers feeling stiff before they have even stepped onto the pitch.

This is the routine I use to help the body feel ready to move after hours of sitting.

🫁 Start by calming and resetting the nervous system.

🔄 Restore movement through the spine and hips.

💪 Build stability and strength through the core and hips so you are not just moving better, but moving with control.

The aim is not to fix stiffness overnight. It is to reduce the effects of prolonged sitting, improve movement, and help you feel more prepared before training or a match.

This is not a replacement for a well structured strength programme. Think of it as a simple reset between long travel and your warm up.

Save this for your next away day and send it to a teammate who always complains about feeling stiff after the journey. ⚽

Broken arm? Training doesn’t stop.

One of my first sessions with this young player after going into a cast, and the mindset never changed.

Too often, injuries become a reason to completely disengage from the process. But while some things need to stop, plenty of things can still move forward.

Today wasn’t about the arm.

It was about developing change of direction ability, lateral movement, acceleration mechanics, plyometric qualities and lower body strength. All adapted to suit the injury while keeping training competitive, challenging and football-specific.

This is the difference between simply waiting to return and actively preparing to return. And ultimately this mindset is the difference between players that make it to the top or fizzle out.

As a football performance coach with a sports science and rehabilitation background, my job is to find solutions, not barriers.

Massive credit to this young Hearts academy player for attacking the session with the right attitude.

Alongside a great team, I’m now coaching youth footballers from JN Rehab & Performance, Glasgow.

If you’re a player or parent looking for football-specific performance training, injury-adapted coaching, or return-to-play support, drop me a DM.

Sometimes progress is so gradual you don’t notice it… until you stop and look back. And honestly, this year was bigger than I first realised.

Becoming Head of Sport Science at Dumbarton FC with full autonomy to build a department, launch an internship programme, and create university partnerships has been a huge step forward.

Alongside that, I moved into full-time professional basketball with Caledonia Gladiators, Scotland’s only pro club, designing strength programmes, game-readiness testing, and rehab & RTP pathways.

Away from elite sport, I ran a ProPerform mentoring pilot in a local high school, now developing a full programme with my good friend and mentor Robert Kielty, while also delivering S&C camps for performance schools and elite youth players in the gym and on the pitch, many thanks to

Grateful for every opportunity along the way, here’s to 2026. 💪⚽🏀

Team Update

Not a well kept secret but in September I took on a new role as Men’s Lead Sports Scientist for the Caledonia Gladiators, Scotland’s only full-time professional Basketball club.

With a great culture already in place, and reuniting with my mentor, I look forward to pushing the guys on to the next level and expanding my reach into a different sport.

How do professional athletes measure their power, balance, and progress? With the same VALD Force Plates I’ve got access to here in Edinburgh 👊I’ve used this kind of testing during my time in professional football, and now I’m bringing it to my coaching so both athletes and general clients can benefit. With the plates we can:✅ Pinpoint strengths & weaknesses✅ Track progress with hard data✅ Improve speed, power & injury resilience✅ Build confidence in the gymFor young athletes (11–18), this means faster improvements in strength & speed and better on-pitch performance. For adults, it means safer, smarter training and reducing injury risk.📍 Based in Edinburgh💻 1-to-1 coaching | Small group workshops | Online programming available👉 DM me “FORCE” to try a session or find out how this testing can help you (or your teen) train with precision.

Goalkeepers Who Quit Too Early All Make This Mistake

Here’s the cold truth:
Most goalkeepers don’t fail — they just quit too soon.

The biggest mistake they make?
They mistake the pain of progress for the sign to stop.

One bad game…
One negative comment from a coach…
One week of low confidence…
And suddenly, they’re packing it in — convinced they’re not cut out for it.

That’s not failure. That’s emotion talking.

Every great goalkeeper has faced setbacks. Every top keeper has been benched, blamed, and broken at some point. The difference? They kept going. They didn’t confuse a hard moment with a dead end.

If you’re struggling right now, good.
That’s the fire you need. That’s where growth lives.

Keepers who stick it out — through the rough patches, the doubt, the silence — are the ones who eventually shine. Not because they were lucky.
But because they refused to walk away.

So here’s your choice:
Fold when it gets hard…
Or stand tall and prove you belong.

The gloves don’t quit. Neither should you.
