The University of Birmingham Boat Club is looking to recruit a Senior Women’s Lead Coach.

Following the last five years of consistent growth and progress, the coaching team needs to expand to support the next phases of exciting development.

In 2026 The women’s squad ranked in the top 5 in the BUCS Victor Ludorum. We are looking to build on that position.

We are regular competitors at Henley Women’s Regatta and reached the semi-finals at Henley Royal Regatta 2026. We compete frequently at local regional events too.

You will work with the Head Coach to develop the performance athletes but lead the coaching and development of the intermediate athletes, bringing them to highly competitive levels in both sculling and sweep.

Duties involve coaching on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 0800 – 1300 generally in Worcester (or other locations depending on winter flooding), attending and contributing to online coaching meetings on Tuesday and Friday evenings (1900), attending races locally and nationally, and a foreign training camp at Easter. The coaching team each have their own responsibilities but support each other to help meet objectives and tackle challenges, alongside the committee.

The athletes also train on the water on Wednesday afternoons, and land train daily, but attendance at these sessions is not required.

The position is not paid but comes with a stipend to mean that the post-holder should not be out of pocket.

Coaching qualifications and experience not required, but significantly advantageous.

Henley Campaign 2026

Henley Royal Regatta 2026

• Our Women’s A Quad powered their way to the semi-finals of the inaugural Queen Victoria Challenge Cup, becoming the first UBBC crew to make the semi-finals and the first women’s crew to qualify for HRR.
• Our Men’s Coxed Four battled through brutal qualifiers to earn their place in the Prince Albert Challenge Cup, taking on the country’s fastest.
• Katie Mole represented UoB in her Quad event, The Princess of Wales Challenge Trophy, and her crew progressed through multiple rounds to reach the finals on the final day of racing, becoming the first person representing UoB to make a HRR final.
• Additionally, our Women’s B Quad had a fantastic performance in the HRR qualifiers narrowly missed the main draw.

Henley Women’s Regatta 2026

• Out of 5 crews entered, 4 qualified into the heats with the Academic Aspirational 4x progressing to the quarter finals on Sunday.
• This success is a testament to the strength of our women’s squad across all levels and discipline this year

Katie’s season has been anything but conventional. Between somehow managing to fracture both her tibia and fibula after an encounter with some Banyoles mud, completing a graduate entry medicine degree, and turning the hospital gym into her personal high-performance training centre, most people would’ve called it a year. Katie, unsurprisingly, decided to go and win BUCS Regatta in the 1x instead.

The result is a rower whose determination is almost impossible to match. Every setback has simply become another training session in disguise.

Now, after a season that has included medical school, major injury rehabilitation and some seriously impressive racing, she’s earned her place at Henley Royal Regatta. We’re excited to see her back where she belongs, racing on the biggest stage.

Henley Royal Regatta 2026- The Queen Victoria Challenge Cup

Not only are these four the first ever University of Birmingham women’s crew to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta, they’ve gone one better by pre-qualifying for the event, earning themselves a straight pass through to Friday’s quarter finals. No qualifying time trial, just the reward for an exceptional season and a place amongst the very best crews in the event.

This crew has relentless consistency, unwavering commitment, and the ability to keep finding speed when it matters most. Their combination of power and resilience makes them an incredible crew to watch, and they’ve more than earned their place in the Queen Victoria Challenge Cup.

History has already been made. Best of luck on the course this Friday.

Henley Royal Regatta 2026- The Prince Albert Challenge Cup

These boys love a challenge, but apparently, qualifying with the slowest erg average in recent UBBC history isn’t funny or cool. If bad chat per kilometer was a valid metric, the PA four would have pre-qualified with a selected spot. The resident cox and American, Daphne, was thrilled to find out that this “henley businesss” is a “totally big deal” two hours before the TT.

After a successful domestic season, the senior mens four battled through a tough field to earn their spot in the PA.

Excited to see them on the course this Thursday.
