Weekend Results 🏏
The First Team comfortably defeated Sawston & Babraham at Spicers. After Sawston made a strong start at 40-0 and then 120-3, the Eagles forced a brilliant collapse. JJ Hewitt took 3 wickets, followed by Jon Carpenter with 4 and veteran Ryan Worboys with 2. With the bat, it was a comfortable chase, with Matt Pateman hitting a quickfire 40 before Harrison Mitchell finished unbeaten on a half-century and Jon Carpenter added an unbeaten 30 to complete a convincing victory.
The Second Team were beaten at home by Kimbolton. After a wicketless start, Roan Haarhoff changed the game with 3 wickets, while overseas star Ray Jordan picked up 2 and Joe Dawborn also claimed 2. With the bat, three early wickets put the Eagles under pressure, but Luke Ashwell steadied the innings with a composed 40, while Dawborn added 27. A late partnership between Haarhoff and Matt Taylor provided some hope, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get the Eagles over the line.
The Third Team were beaten by a strong Milton Bryan side. With the bat, it was the Gandhi brothers leading the way, with Aaryan Gandhi finishing on 29 and Rhiyarn Gandhi unbeaten on 24 from number 10. Ben Davies also impressed with a brilliant 23 in the middle order. With the ball, the Eagles made an excellent start as Ben Davies and Casey Barrett both took 2 wickets. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find any more breakthroughs, but it was another encouraging display from a very young side.
The Development Team secured a brilliant victory over Papworth on Sunday. Batting first, Gabriel Fu made a positive start before Tommo Newton and Ollie Goodey both hit half-centuries and put together a superb partnership. Max Jordison then added a quickfire 42, supported by Casey Barrett and Terry Day to finish the innings strongly. With the ball, Alfie Ashpole got the Eagles going with an excellent 3 wickets from his 8 overs. Youngsters Cameron Digby and Teddy Yelland backed him up brilliantly with 5 wickets between them, before returning opening bowlers Casey Barrett and Ben Davies both picked up a wicket to wrap up the victory.
