Cram all the good stuff into this weekend. ❤️

Friday I went on a business trip to Ampthill. A solid day of laptoping with bouncing ideas off each other and sharing ideas.

Then came pizza and a pint obviously 🍕🍺

On the way back, I got a serious case of tomato ripening envy walking past someone’s greenhouse. 🍅😂

Saturday I had the house to myself, so I ended up in the kitchen as I had 10000 cucumbers 🥒

Pickled cucumbers and relish were made. And bloody hell, it was tasty. 😋 I can’t wait to have that in a burger. 🍔

Also made some roasted tomatoes and sunblushed tomatoes. 🍅

Then I followed the boss’s orders and started making a bookshelf.

Well… I listened for about five minutes before obviously deciding I had a better idea. 💡😜

A book cupboard. 😮‍💨

Sunday started with a run. 🏃‍♂️

Then I headed down for the sea dip. I didn’t get in because of the recent Southern Water carnage. A chat none the less.

I also said goodbye to a friend who was the person that got me into going for sea dips in the first place.

At the time, I wasn’t in a great place mentally, and him simply talking to me helped beyond belief.

It got me thinking about how important talking is…

Always say hello. Always check in.

You never really know what someone is carrying behind the mask they put on each day.

Someone can be the happiest person in the room and still be struggling.

Sometimes just talking can mean more than you’ll ever realise.

Later that day, my old Sunday drinking buddy came down from up north and we headed to London to see Twenty One Pilots.

They were epic. Absolutely didn’t disappoint. What a performance. 🔥

Monday consisted of feeling a little sorry for myself 😂 before heading to my parents for a catch up.

Then the rest explains itself.

More seeds sown. 🌱
More cactus growing. 🌵
More ideas.
More projects.

A weekend full of good people, good food, memories, ideas and a reminder to make the most of the time youve got.

Cram all the good stuff in. ❤️

Here’s a thought that I’ve been thinking allot about recently. And it’s not about what to do with all my tomatoes. 🍅

Because running isn’t always as simple as just putting more miles in.

I’ve seen runners who can run for miles but haven’t got the strength to support the load

Runners trying to fix everything by changing cadence and doing every plyo going .

Others constantly adding sessions when what they actually need is a stronger body and better capacity to tolerate the training.

And I’m learning the same things myself everyday.

Strength matters allot

Single leg strength matters

Your calves matter.

Your glutes matter.

Being able to produce force matters.

But so does knowing when not to just throw more at the problem.

That’s a big part of what I’m trying to do.

Not just helping people run further or faster…

But helping build a body that is actually capable of doing it. 🏃‍♂️

Because the goal isn’t just to survive the miles with a tear of a strap around your knee.

It’s to be able to keep doing them and enjoy it

Bulgarian Split Squats 🦵

This isn’t an exercise that’s often executed to its full advantage.

Usually it’s either too much load, or the load isn’t in the right place.

I like to load the weight contralaterally.

Why?

Because now you’re not just training the leg , you’re also asking the body to control that load and resist the off balance forces.

And for runners, that’s so important.

Historically, runners haven’t always had the strongest glutes to produce and control force.

Running is essentially a series of single leg movements, so being able to control the pelvis, hip and knee while producing force is what we need.

So don’t just chuck the biggest dumbbells you can find into your hands and smash out reps.

Where you put the load matters.

Make the body work harder, not just the weight heavier.

That’s how we get more from the exercise.

We can also go heavy on these. 3x 6 reps (owshhhhh)🏃‍♂️💪

Why am I cycling? 🚴‍♂️

Did you know one of the best exercises you can pair with running is cycling?

I find you can recover really well from it while still getting used to working hard and building up some serious lactic acid in a controlled environment.

And that turn over of the legs? 👌

Brilliant for getting the legs moving without the same impact you get from running.

If you’re someone who is prone to niggles or injury, cycling can be a great tool to keep building your fitness without constantly hammering the same structures.

But this got me thinking…

You can take gold from ANY sport and use them to help your own sport.

Want to be a better swimmer? Maybe rock climbing has something to teach you about strength, grip and body control.

Want to become a better runner? Look at cycling, strength training, swimming… even other sports.

The problem is our heads can become so tunnel visioned that we only look at what everyone else in our sport is doing.

“What does a runner do?”

RUN. 🏃‍♂️

But what if we started asking

“What can I take from THAT sport and use in mine?”

Start thinking outside the box 📦
Not inside it.

There are clues to excellence everywhere.

You just have to look for them. 👀

Another fun weekend ❤️

Lots of moving things into better homes, organising, DIYing and generally trying to get my life in order. ( if only this was possible)

Me having a little strop because I hadn’t got enough done… so obviously the sensible solution was to go for a run. 🏃‍♂️😂

Teaching Bram how to monkey around 🐒

Then off to celebrate Addam & Chloe getting married. What a lovely day ❤️

I may also have worn something other than activewear or DIY scruffs. 😂

A bit of balance biking, followed by a tea and bread pudding date with my boy. 🥰

And I’m absolutely loving that Bram’s new favourite word is “love”.

He loves this.
He loves that.
He loves everything.

And honestly, I love that. ❤️

Oh… and of course, another run. 🏃‍♂️

A pretty good weekend really.🏃‍♂️

Run for you, not Strava

I love Strava. It’s a brilliant tool. 🔨

The more metrics we have, the more we can learn about our running.

But sometimes… run for you, not Strava.

Run for time instead of pace.

Don’t worry about your average pace.

Pause the watch when you see something that makes you stop and think, “Wow.”

Take the photo. 🌅
Say hello to someone.
Take in where you are.

Because running isn’t always about getting faster.

Sometimes it’s about getting outside, moving your body and actually experiencing the run.

Strava will still be there when you get back.

Your run doesn’t have to be perfect to be worthwhile. ❤️

Run for you and Not the numbers.

Runs, gym, salty sea air, pumpkins and cake.

A pretty good weekend really.

A bit of running, a bit of strength in the gym, then Bram helping A school look after some animals at their little farm with his mate🐑

Off to his mate’s birthday party, when Bram stopped parcel got to him and there was… “nothing here” 😂

Then back home to growing pumpkins working the traps with countless watering cans .

pizza, and a beers and chats with mates down at the harbour. And if course a scoot and a seal lookout.

these are the weekends I like.

Running. Training. Family. Friends. Growing stuff. Good food. Salty air.

Pretty simple. Pretty good.

It’s easy to mistake quiet for standing still.

Running has taught me that some of the biggest changes happen when nothing exciting seems to be happening.

No PB.
No breakthrough session.
No big announcement.

Just another run.

Another tick ✅

Then one day, you look back and realise you’ve become someone capable of things you couldn’t do before.

It’s chance to explore and take in things you didn’t think you’d take in

Growth is rarely loud, and Nor should it be
