A nice sunny day for another trip down to Ayr for our postponed league match from earlier in the season.

The girls started very slowly and Ayr went one up pretty early in the game with an avoidable goal before we came back to make it 1 - 1 about 5 mins later.

The game was played in a good spirit but was very scrappy with Ayr playing a little more football than us in the first half. Ayr scored again midway through the first half to make it 2 - 1 and thats how the half finished.

The second half was much better from our point of view, it was still very scrappy but we kept a little better shape and forced Ayr to turn back out looking for passes and minimised them to shots from distance. With about 10 minutes to go our girls did look like they had more in their legs and were spending most of the half in the Ayr half and it eventually paid off with Faryl scoring from outside the box to make it 2 - 2 after a good spell of play. Ayr were then still having shots from distance and Anya had to be on her toes in goal, a few bouncing awkwardly in front of her but she was excellent for the full game and commanded her box well.

It did look a little more likely that we were going to score when we started really pressing the Ayr goal kicks and that's what happened. The ball was pinched off a defender and played through for us to score the winner with a few minutes to go.

Well done to both sets of girls today, it was a hot day and the game, although scrappy from both sets of girls, was played at a good tempo and they were all out on their feet by the end of it.

ANNAN ATHLETIC v EAST KILBRIDE FC U16s

An early 9:30am kick-off meant an even earlier rise for everyone and a journey south to Annan.

Today’s game was a massive step forward for the girls in terms of what the coaches have been working on with them in training.

The build-up play through midfield and the sharpness of passing were great to see. The drive, fight, and determination from all the girls were on show for everyone to witness.

Prior to the game, we asked the girls to be brave on the ball in possession and to make sure we carried our passing and movement from training into today’s match. The girls did everything we asked of them.

We began on the front foot and tried to push Annan back immediately. Very quickly, we saw the pace Annan had in their front three, but for the most part the defence coped well with that threat.

Both teams had chances to take the lead but were unable to convert. Annan then took the lead early in the first half, breaking from midfield and finishing high over Grace from just inside the box.

The game continued to ebb and flow toward both goals, with opportunities for both sides.

Annan cleared from their box down the right-hand side, and a low cross into the area fortuitously ricocheted off a knee and into the net for an own goal. (2–0)

Despite going 2–0 down, the girls kept fighting and shortly before half-time got one back. Grace cleared toward the halfway line, and Aimee R took advantage of a defensive error, running through on goal and finishing well.

Half-time: 2–1

The goal just before half-time was a great confidence booster going into the second half.

The energy and desire to win the ball in midfield shown by Anya were fantastic to see. She then showed real composure to find Gracie in the centre circle, who played a neat one-two with Aimee R. Aimee ran through on goal and calmly rounded the keeper — a great team goal.

The game then went end to end again, with both sides creating chances but unable to convert. Grace made some excellent saves and showed real bravery with the ball at her feet.

As full-time approached, we began to sit just that little bit deeper, allowing Annan to press us back. The girls were still doing everything right and showing great composure in dealing with the threat.

After an attack on Annan’s goal, the ball was cleared downfield, and a small mix-up in defence allowed the ball to break to Annan, who took advantage.

Full-time: 3–2

A sore one to take right at the end, but even after that setback the girls didn’t give up and fought until the final whistle, unlucky not to get the draw we deserved on the balance of play.

We are immensely proud of the team effort today, with all the coaches excited and delighted to see the hard work on the training ground now starting to show itself on the field.

As long as the girls continue to play like that — the results will come.

A beautiful, crisp morning set the stage for our first cup game of the season, with the girls finishing convincing winners against a well-organised and physical Kirkfield side.

EKFC started sharply and on the front foot, leading to a perfect start. Aine opened the scoring with a fantastic strike from just outside the box, lifting the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Kirkfield responded quickly, however, with a well-worked ball over the top to beat Grace and level the score.

The girls remained composed and focused. The key message today was communication, encouragement, and bravery in their passing. They quickly settled back into their rhythm, although this was briefly disrupted when Abbie had to come off injured following a heavy challenge.

After a bit of reshuffling, the girls regained the lead with another well-worked move, finished well by Aimee.

The remainder of the half saw sustained pressure in the Kirkfield half, with two further quality goals added to make it 4–1 at half time.

The message at the break was simple: more of the same.

Composure in the back line and simple passes out from defence were key to maintaining pressure on our opponents.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the majority of play taking place in the opposition half. There were a few half chances, and Aine was unlucky not to add another when a dangerous corner dropped right in front of the keeper, who dealt with it well.

The link-up play between the midfield four—particularly down the right—was very effective and great to watch. On the left, Aimee C’s pace proved to be a constant threat and was used well by the girls.

There were no further goals in the second half, but the quality of football on display was a joy to watch.

The tempo, control, and communication were all very positive, and the hard work in training is beginning to show on the pitch as the team continues to gel.

A very well-earned result for the girls, especially given the injuries we are currently dealing with.

East Kilbride Ladies (0) Vs (1) Holytown Ladies

Friday 27th February 2026

Another league game for the ladies where they competed well but just couldn't push through for a result. A draw would have been the fair result for the match but errors with 5 mins to go allowed Holytown in to score the only goal of the game for them to come away with the win.

A good hard fought game between both teams and both teams gave everything. It was a tight game with very little space for anyone on the pitch with the ladies working very hard to shut each other down all over the pitch.
