Cracking turnout tonight for Calderglen Harriers Tuesday Training (6:30pm).

We had a C25k pack, a pack running 5k and another running around 7k (with a few running nearer 8k).

So there’s a place for everyone at the Harriers.

Weekly Roundup

On Wednesday evening, Robert Gibson was the sole Harriers running in Springburn Harriers Bishopbriggs 5 miler, where he ran an impressive 41:13. Well done Robert, one of our most frequent members running in Harrier 💛 🖤

On Saturday it was Parkrun time, with a few Harriers out running across Scotland (and Wales!).

Scott Hair was at Falkirk, Russell Couper at Nova Prestatyn and Robert Gibson went to Pollok. Iain MacLean was back at St Andrews, whilst Graeme Lindsay and David Searil (welcome back Davie) were both at Cuningar Loop. Special mention to Chris Thomson who managed his 1st sub 20 5k while running at Elder Park!! Thanks to Gerry Connelly for his well needed encouragement at Elder Park, and thanks also to Chris’ club mates for all their support and advice along the way!

From our Juniors Section, Paul Rooney was at Crinan Canal, whilst Ava Byrne ran at Pollok. Well done to you both for your efforts. 👏

Also on Saturday morning, Steph Robertson Caulfield was running at Strathclyde Park at a 5k (6k!) inflatable fun run 🤨 (p.s. thanks for cancelling the Parkrun!)

Later on Saturday, Coach Alan Derrick was on home turf, running in the Aberfoyle Trail Festival 10k, where he finished a fantastic 3rd overall (2nd M) in 44:49. What a fantastic achievement Alan!

Finally, a special mention to our future female relay team members (🤣)!! It was nice to see Steph Robertson Caulfield, Rachel Cochrane, Carolyn D and Elaine Bell, all out running with Louise Higgins to support her training for her upcoming Malaga Half Marathon. Great to see club members supporting one another!

Well done everyone out running over the weekend.

Weekend Roundup

At Parkrun on Saturday, Iain MacLean, Deane Devine, Lauren McPhillips and Kevin McPhillips were all running in perfect weather conditions. Lauren managed her fastest parkrun time in a few months, whilst Iain managed a PB for the Strathclyde course.

Kai Wheeler was also on action (on a much bigger scale!!) competing in Perth and Kinross at the Big Bertha 12 hour trail Ultra - a tough and technical 10k loop on tarmac and trails. Kai managed to finish this tough event completing roughly 80km in 10 hours to finish an impressive 5th overall. Well done Kai👏

Later on Saturday at the Bute Highland Games 10k, Robbie Pattinson managed a strong time of 50:45 on his return from a hamstring injury.

Also on Saturday, a strong contingent of Harriers took part in the annual Live it for Lee Triathlon. Well done to all the Harriers taking part, and to all those who managed to secure place prizes and raffle prizes!

Finally on Sunday, Andrew Higgins and Claire McSorley were the only 2 Harriers running in the North Lanarkshire Half Marathon, a course starting at Ravenscraig and with a tough profile in the 2nd half of the course. Well done to Andrew who finished in a time of 1:35:29 and to Claire who finished in 1:56:23. 2 fantastic times, taking account of the hills and heat.

Well done everyone out running at the weekend!

Weekend Update

On Friday evening, Andrew Higgins was the sole Harrier running the Bill Elder 10k, a fast out and back course along the esplanade at Greenock. Despite his legs turning to lead around 1/2 way, Andrew managed to finish in an impressive 41:07. Well done Andrew 👏

On Saturday, it was a quiet day at Parkruns, with Julie Beveridge at Strathclyde, Iain MacLean at St Andrews, Nikki Dow at Elgin and Margaret Mary Cowan at York.

I wonder if Friday nights pub run had anything to do with Saturdays low turnout 🤣

The weather is looking good for training this week, along with the new Couch to 5k programme starting tomorrow night (Tuesday 11th 6:30pm - Calderglen Sports Club Main Hall).

Harriers Tuesday. A few hearty souls braved EK road gridlock and the pouring rain to attend a tough pyramid session at Langlands Place. Well done everyone, including our 2 new and 2 returning friends.
