Firstly, a huge well done to all that participated in the NWWTS PD.
As we have so many new members and people who are not necessarily au fait with the way in which PD is judged, would a experienced member/ competitor/ judge kindly explain how some of the marks for the 'chase and detention have been allocated?
The 'chase and detention' rules state:
'The dog must be regarded as having succeeded if it clearly prevents the ‘protected steward’ from continuing to flee by holding him by the protected arm. If the dog fails to make a convincing attempt to detain the ‘protected steward’, it shall lose any marks that it may have obtained for the recall from protected stewards exercise or alternatively, it shall not be tested on the recall that follows the pursuit and detention of protected stewards exercise.'
There are several 'newbies' who are honoured to have their first judging appointments in the new year, and will no doubt be trying their utmost to ensure competitors are judged fairly and within the rules. For sake of clarity, as above, could somebody please shed some light on how the scores were given?
Great High Drive results from the Surrey Open Trial this weekend.
Huge congrats to all competitors but special mention to Lauren Marlow on qualifying both PD and TD coming 1st and 2nd respectively, Les Theobald coming 2nd and qualifying PD and Julian Smith coming 4th and putting in a great showing in his first PD, and Jane Wood and her 2nd in WD (😊)
Also, well done to Dave Clarke, Chris Theobald and Tommy Tannk for competing but unfortunately just falling short.
An assessment we had done earlier in the year on some of our current, prospective and retired PD dogs.
Canine Physio Iain MacDonald (CCFT/ MIRVAP) of SuperFLY animal Physiotherapy is no stranger to high drive, high activity dogs, serving on KC health and welfare groups and actively competing in Agility, and was a stand out choice to assess the rigors the dogs faced while competing in all aspects of PD including any potential physiology 'issues' encountered as a result of agility and impact through manwork.
Iain assessed all dogs individually and produced a report highlighting issues, areas of concern and any suggested preventative measures going forward.
It is an exercise we will be looking to repeat as handlers and owners found huge benefit in ensuring the well-being of their dogs.
Thanks once again to Iain for his time, expertise and professionalism.
Been a great week for High Drive!
Chris Theobald winning TDEx with Stan Ford, Dave Clarke and Joyce Tibbets also qualifying.
Mick Tustain, Lauren Marlow, Les Theobald, Julian Smith and Ross George qualifying WDex
Good luck to everyone in the PD today.
